New CGAP Research
Long term giving trends – the good news and the future challenges
New research by CGAP and the Centre for Market and Public Organisation looks at three decades of household giving to charity. The New State of Donation was published on 15th February.
The good news shown by the new research is that giving is largely recession-proof, donations have increased in real terms in the past three decades and the long-term decline in the proportion of households giving to charity has been halted.
However the challenges for the future include the increasing dependency on the grey pound, the difficulties in raising the levels of charitable giving and the need to change fundraising approaches in line with changing influences on household expenditure.

Big Society and entrepreneurial philanthropy
CGAP researcher Eleanor Shaw discussed her work into the emergence of entrepreneurial philanthropy at the first Social and Sustainable Enterprise Network Symposium. Her presentation ‘Social enterprise and philanthropy: their role in the new big society’ is available now. Also see Growing the Social Investment Market: A vision and strategy the Government's strategy for growing social ventures.

Responding to the Giving Green Paper 15th February
CGAP organised a seminar with CMPO (Centre for Market and Public Organisation, University of Bristol), EAPG and NCVO to inform research, policy and practice responses to the Government's Giving Green Paper on Giving. The Research Seminar presentations and summary notes are now available. The consultation period ends on 9th March.
