Massimiliano Fuksas Will Open the IAAC Lecture Series 2018/19

Next Thursday October 11th the celebrated Italian Architect Massimiliano Fuksas will officially open 2018/19 IAAC Lecture Series.

Studio Fuksas is an international architecture practice with offices in Rome, Paris and Shenzhen. With built projects across Europe, Asia and North America, the firm is characterised by an innovative approach as well as interdisciplinary skills and experience consolidated over three decades.

IAAC Welcomes New Students and Inaugurates the 2018/19 Academic Year

On October 1st our Staff, Faculty and Directors warmly welcomed the 169 students who came to Barcelona this year to attend IAAC Master courses. This is one of the most ethnically diverse classes in the Institute’s history, with students coming from 40 different countries.

Another promising factor is the variety of their educational backgrounds, which will bring a broad range of skills to the classroom.

MAEB Students Discover Valldaura Self-sufficient

Master in Advanced Ecological Building (MAEB) students just landed in the Valldaura Self-sufficient Labs, which will be home to the 12-month immersive experience that is about to start.

Soon an intense programme made of workshops with leading experts, module courses, regular seminars and lectures will lead them to engage a year-long project, with a strong emphasis on real-scale prototyping.

Won-soon Visits Fab Lab Barcelona

Park Won-soon, the Mayor of one of the Fab City member Cities - Fab City Seoul, visited Fab Lab Barcelona last week, to learn by the hand of Master in Design for Emergent Futures (MDEF) Co-director Tomás Díez and gather information about Fab City Barcelona.

The Fab City initiative is powered by a collective of citizens, researchers, policy makers and entrepreneurs working in parallel to the Fab Lab network to bring back production to cities.

Learn more about IAAC Alumni and Programme Director Alex Dubor 

Since his MAA graduation in 2012, Alexandre Dubor has been working at IAAC as an expert in digital and robotic fabrication.

Alex is co-directing the
Master in Robotic and Advanced Construction (MRAC) and the Open Thesis Fabrication (OTF) where, together with students and industrial partners, he investigates how new advances in material, digital fabrication and computational design could lead to a more sustainable construction ecosystem.


MAA Projects at Dubai Design Week

 IAAC is glad to announce that the Master in Advanced Architecture (MAA) projects Synapse and City of Robots in the Age of Limitless Demand and Consumption of Goods, respectively from MAA Digital Matter and MAA02 The City in the Age of Hyperobjects studios, are among the works that will represent IAAC at the Dubai Design Week Global Grad Show 


Ambient Crowdfunding at MaCT Seminars

Master in City & Technology (MaCT) students are about to start this academic course with a seminar of speculative urbanism led by design strategist Nicolay Boyadjiev. Part of his collaborative project “Google Urbanism” at the Strelka Institute, the seminar will tackle themes ranging from data-municipalism and derivative spatial products, to the notion of ambient crowdfunding.

Roundtable: the Future of Construction

Are digital manufacturing technologies the future of construction? Tonight October 5th, IAAC will host a roundtable, organised in the framework of the Master in Robotic and Advanced Construction (MRAC), where experts in the fields of architecture, robotics and construction will discuss the potential and challenges currently faced by this sector.
