NRC exceeds Giving Tuesday goal

Thank you, South Bend! On Giving Tuesday, you helped NRC beat our fundraising goal of $2,019 to kick-start our 2019 programs. We are blessed to live and work in a community where residents and local nonprofits support each other, and we thank each and every one of you who donated or helped us get the word out. See how your donations help South Bend neighbors

Congratulations to Breakfast Basket winner Corey Noland

We’re especially grateful for those of you who were ready and able to meet us at the 8:00 a.m. starting line for Facebook matching! Thirteen names went into the hat to win NRC’s Breakfast Basket, and we’re pleased to announce that Corey Noland is the lucky winner of some tasty Bendix Coffee, a gift certificate to South Blend Cafe, and a pretty sweet travel mug. Thank you Corey, and everyone who participated!

Near West Side presents Survey results at Holiday Mixer

NRC enjoyed visiting Near West Side neighbors last weekend at the NWSNO’s Holiday Mixer at the Civil Rights Heritage Center. Neighbors enjoyed potluck dishes, getting acquainted, and hearing a short presentation on the results of the neighborhood survey project. Neighbors then reviewed and ranked the results to provide further input on the priorities and directions that the NWSNO might take on behalf of residents in 2019 and beyond. To follow the survey project and other upcoming neighborhood events, see the NWSNO Facebook page.

Howard Park potluck December 19, 7 pm

The December meeting of the Howard Park neighborhood association will be a potluck to welcome new residents to the neighborhood, and help current residents get acquainted. Any resident of the Howard Park neighborhood is welcome - see the Facebook event for details.

Downtown neighborhood association organizers get underway

NRC has had the privilege of attending two meetings with the organizers of a soon-to-be-formed Downtown neighborhood association. Planners are recruiting residents and soliciting ideas for the organization’s agenda. Their first order of business? It’s still in the works, but keep your eyes peeled for a social event sometime around February for residents of the Downtown area (including adjacent neighborhoods). It’s being coordinated by the Downtown organizers, NRC, and the DTSB’s Residential Committee. If you live downtown and would like to have a voice in your neighborhood, let the organizers know here.

Associations create neighborhood-themed Christmas trees at NDCAC

A variety of community-themed Christmas trees will be on display Sunday at the Notre Dame Center for Arts and Culture, including two neighborhood-themed trees decorated by local neighborhood organizations. The Kennedy Park Neighborhood Association tree was decorated by youth from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center’s after school program, and the Near West Side Neighborhood Organization’s tree displays an impressive collection of ornaments created using images of homes in the neighborhood.  These trees and others decorated by community organizations will be one of many destinations on the Historic Holiday Walking Tour on Sunday, December 9 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Details.
