Advanced Neighborhood Leadership Academy is underway
More than twenty representatives from South Bend neighborhoods and associations joined NRC last Thursday to kick off the 2018 Neighborhood Leadership Academy. Over the next nine weeks, these participants will focus on helping their neighborhood organizations answer these key questions: what do your neighbors want for their neighborhood, which should your organization do first, and how can you use small wins to create forward momentum?
Last week, the participants began by brainstorming and sharing their own ideas for better neighborhoods. See photos
. Tonight the participants will discuss Servant Leadership in Neighborhood Associations, presented by the City of South Bend’s Director of Community Outreach, Cherri Peate. Follow the 2018 Academy
Yard games, anyone? Come see NRC’s Block Party Toolkit during Best. Week. Ever, May 29 & 30.
NRC has a new program in the works! We’re excited to be unveiling our Block Party Toolkit (twice!) during South Bend’s signature Best. Week. Ever.
On Tuesday’s Rebel Art Festival or
Wednesday’s Best Wednesday Ever
, grab a friend and come try "giant" Jenga, "giant" Yahtzee, cornhole, and more -- all part of the Neighborhood Resources Connection's new Block Party Toolkit, a collection of everything you need to host a fun, outdoor neighborhood event -- all free for your South Bend neighborhood organization to borrow. While you're here, check out the other items in the Toolkit, including a pop-up canopy, tables, PA system, yard signs, even a wagon to haul it all.
We’ll also unveil the details on how your recognized neighborhood organization can borrow the toolkit, so stop by NRC’s Best. Pop-up Block Party. Ever. on May 29, or
May 30. More Information
Thank you, Tapas & Tango Supporters
Many thanks to all who helped make Tapas & Tango 2018 a success! When the biggest hiccup of the evening was getting a slightly late start while we set up an additional table for an overflow crowd, we’d say that was a successful event. See event photos
(or share your own) on our Facebook page.
Extra thanks to Spanish Heart and Emily and Joventino from South Bend Latin Dance for a fun and entertaining evening of Latin music and dance, and to Tapastrie for cooking up an amazing assortment of charcuterie and tapas on site.
And, last but most, thanks to our attendees, silent auction contributors, and these partners for supporting South Bend neighborhoods through the work of NRC:
NRC’s Little House in the Prairie (Building)
We’ve moved! We’ve said goodbye to our neighbors DTSB, Pigeon & Hen Pottery and The Acting Ensemble and hello to new neighbors a few blocks west. NRC’s new office is located at 115 N. William. While we’re still unpacking for now, watch for more information soon about our new Resource Room: training/meeting space for neighborhood organizations, complete with reconfigurable furniture, presentation technology, “tons” of dry erase boards (we should know - we lifted them), wheelchair accessibility, and on-site advising and resources to help take your neighborhood organization to the next level.
Kennedy Park announces second neighborhood improvement event
In addition to their already-scheduled Neighborhood Cleanup day this Saturday (Facebook event), the Kennedy Park Neighborhood Association announces a Fire Hydrant Painting Day on Monday (yes, Monday!) May 14. If you'd like to help out, 9:00 am is the time to meet up with the Notre Dame student volunteers at the Notre Dame Center for Arts & Culture, grab some refreshments and supplies (provided), and head out to show your Kennedy Park neighborhood pride. Details on KPNA's Facebook event or their NRC webpage.
River Park neighborhood seeks newsletter distribution volunteers
Door-to-door newsletter distribution has always been one of the best ways to make sure your neighbors have an opportunity to participate in their neighborhood organization and events, so we love seeing the River Park Neighborhood Association's call for newsletter distribution volunteers for the weekend of May 25-27. If you'd like to get to know your neighborhood and neighbors a little better (and get some steps in!), volunteer through their Facebook group.
