Dear Monroe Park Neighbors and South Bend neighborhood association leaders,

Please come to the Monroe Park Neighborhood Association's monthly meeting this Thursday, 9/13, @ 7:30 pm in That Church Downtown (formerly the Salvation Army Church) at the corner of E. South and S. Carroll Sts. That Church Downtown is approximately two blocks east of the downtown Transpo Bus Station.

We are hosting the engineers from South Bend's Street Department to speak with all of us regarding the technological possibilities of engineering safer streets, also known as the implementation of "street calming measures"  within any given neighborhood.

In Monroe Park, there is concern regarding the amount of traffic coming in and out of our neighborhood who both speed and show little regard for stop signs. What can our street department folks offer us to "calm" this pattern of driving? What traffic patterns pose issues within your neighborhood? Bring those concerns to this meeting. Lets learn what might be possible to slow or calm traffic which we hope ensures greater safety for all drivers and neighbors within our neighborhood.

This effort in educating ourselves regarding street calming measures is just one facet of our overall neighborhood revitalization plan. Monroe Park has partnered with Habitat For Humanity on a three to five year neighborhood revitalization plan to address neighborhood housing concerns, street and sidewalk concerns, green space concerns, vacant/abandoned housing and lot concerns, funding issues, educational issues, collaborative issues among home owners, landlords and surrounding business owners.

So please come and learn what might be available for Monroe Park streets and for all of the streets in our surrounding South Bend neighborhoods. The engineers plan on a power point presentation of about 45 minutes with time for questions and discussions to follow. We hope to be finished before 9 pm. Some light refreshments will be available.

Sincerely and Thank you,

Mike Coman, President
Monroe Park Neighborhood Association
