NRC is offering up to $1000 in funding through our Technical Assistance Grant Program. Two will be awarded in the Fall 2015 cycle, with applications due to NRC by November 5. For details, see the website or call 574.287.0425. These NRC neighborhood grants are designed to help South Bend groups build identity through signage and communications, establish a nonprofit status, and specific technical tasks.

Through November 15, South Bend Museum of Art features the "Engaging Youth, Engaging Neighborhoods" photo exhibit. The next EYEN youth program, free to South Bend students, begins on January 20. Contact NRC if you're interested in this youth community engagement program centering on the arts, dialogue and service. EYEN is offered by NRC in partnership with Notre Dame. Oct. 8       If you're civic minded and have the skills, it's not just about tech! Join Hack Michiana tonight at 5:30 p.m. at The Branch, 105 E. Jefferson Blvd., for this monthly meetup to discuss work on the Tree Finder app, a local campaign finance project and a diverse group of ideas -- including your own! -- designed to improve community life. Oct. 10     The Chicory Cafe welcomes Shiny Shiny Black for a live music performance that begins at 7 p.m. Enjoy South Bend's vibrant local music scene with this and other autumn offerings!

Oct. 14     The League of Women Voters plans a Fall Friend-Raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at Temple Beth-El. This is an informal open house to meet friends and support League programs such as debates, forums, speakers, educational programs, voter registration and our Citizen's Guide to Representative Government. Oct. 15     The Well in River Park celebrates this month's Third Thursdays with "A Spooktacular Halloween Party." Wear costumes to this family-friendly event, enjoy cocoa and candy, and celebrate the fall season with neighbors. Complete details here

Oct. 17     It's the South Bend Clean Energy Road Show! Head over to the Near Northwest Neighborhood office, 901 California Ave., to learn about the city's renewable energy products and discuss the future of energy. That's from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn more here

Oct. 22     It's the annual Taste of Unity Harvest Celebration! Join Unity Gardens from 5 to 8 p.m. at Palais Royale for tapas offerings from local chefs, auction and more.  For details and tickets, see this link
Oct. 22     Potawatomi Zoo celebrates Halloween with an adults-only party after hours at the zoo. Oct. 25     Near Northwest Neighborhood Arts Cafe runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along California Avenue at Portage. Each year, the University of Notre Dame Center for Social Concerns awards three Seed Grants to support community-based projects in partnership with faculty and students. These Ganey grants are designed to provide positive impact in South Bend, while creating learning and research opportunities. To learn more about the application process, see the link here. Community Homebuyers Corporation Homeownership Assistance Program: The Homeowner Assistance Program is the result of six local financial institutions joining with the City of South Bend to help people get a good home at an affordable price.  For those who qualify and meet some simple ongoing criteria, grant money is available as a forgivable loan equal to 20% of the purchase price based on household income.  See
