NRC to host Open House at new location Wednesday, June 27

NRC is on the move! We’ve recently relocated from Michigan St. in South Bend to our new location a few blocks away in the Prairie Building at 115 N. William Street. We’re excited about our new location, which includes a Resource Room -- a training/meeting space for small groups.

Neighborhood organization members, city officials, and all friends of NRC are invited to visit us anytime from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27 for light refreshments and a tour. At 5:45, we’ll offer a short presentation on what NRC has been up to over the past year and what we envision for 2018-19. Free (though RSVPs are appreciated at EventBrite).

Visit NRC, play yard games at Saturday's Juneteenth celebration

Come see NRC Saturday at Lasalle Park! We’ll be at the 2018 Juneteeth Celebration to share how we can help you get your neighborhood organized through free leadership training, advising, grants, and other resources.

We’ll have our new Block Party Toolkit on hand to show you how you could use our giant yard games, canopy, tables, and other helpful items to host an organizational event in your neighborhood.

Come out and enjoy an afternoon of music, children's activities, informational and merchandise booths, and food vendors at Lasalle Park from noon-5:00 p.m. For more information, see the Facebook event.

Neighborhood Updates:
Neighbors Clean up Monroe Park
Kudos to the neighbors in Monroe Park for a great cleanup event on June 8, despite the rain. Thanks to Mike and Stacey and other leaders from the Monroe Park group, the City’s Code Enforcement team (who can also help your neighborhood with yours!), and volunteers from Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County, Indiana. See the video
Newsletters published for River Park, Near West Side
Two of the best neighborhood association newsletters we’ve seen in a while just happened to both drop on June 20. River Park neighbors, check out your Summer 2018 issue on your Facebook page. Near West Side neighbors, ditto for you
Northshore Triangle events, leadership opportunities
At their recent meeting, members of the Northshore Triangle Neighborhood Association got a variety of updates. The Association is planning some fun events, including a yard sale on July 21, a picnic on Sept. 23, and a Halloween Party on 10/27. There are also upcoming opportunities for Northshore Triangle neighbors to assume new leadership roles and determine the organization's next direction, so stay tuned about how you could be a part of it.
Kennedy Park Neighborhood Center fundraiser
It’s a challenge for a neighborhood association to own and operate a physical space, but our friends in Kennedy Park are giving it their best shot! But first, they need to clear up some back taxes on the donated property before June 30, and they could use your support. Visit their GoFundMe campaign to donate.

Citizen’s Police Academy applications due July 25
If you'd like a closer look at policing in South Bend, the Citizen’s Police Academy is your chance. Experience hands-on K9 and SWAT demonstrations, learn about crime scene operations and narcotics enforcement, and more. The free 9-week program runs from August 14 to October 9 and meets from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights. Apply by July 25. Apply here

EYEN photos now on display in County/City Building
Photographs taken by youth participants in NRC’s Engaging Youth, Engaging Neighborhoods (EYEN) program are currently on exhibit in the South Bend City Clerk/Common Council offices on the 4th floor of the County/City Building.

EYEN empowers South Bend youth ages eleven to seventeen to tell the stories of their communities through art, poetry, and other creative expressions. Participants were provided a camera and asked to tell the story of their South Bend community by photographing its Assets, Challenges, and Possibilities.

Photos will be on display for a limited time. The exhibit is open and available for viewing during regular business hours.
