Last week was no different at our Pink House in Medina, when the team transformed the dance studio into a place of reflection and empowerment, enabling the girls to look at themselves in the mirror, turn their backs on the past and believe in their potential.
During a conversation circle with all the girls together, many cried as they opened up together about the things that had happened to them in the past, both distant and recent, and together they wrote down their difficult experiences on pieces of paper:
"Sometimes I did things I regret"
"I remember the nights I didn't sleep"
"Drugs and drink were frequent"
"I believed that nobody liked me"
The team then put the memories on a black background in the dance studio, and one by one the girls went in their on their own, then looked at themselves in the mirror while reading phrases which affirmed them and encouraged them to believe in themselves, such as "Leaving the past behind is a big challenge, but you can do it. You are strong enough."
That night, one of the girls, deeply affected by the activity, sent a Whatsapp message to Pink House coordinator Cristiane, saying: Please help me leave the past behind. I'm not managing to do it on my own. I wish those things never happened but I don't know how to change it."
Cristiane asked us to send you, our supporters, this message:
"It is at moments like this when we can only hug these girls and say to them: 'we will get through this, together'. Please pray for our girls. Their lives aren't easy and overcoming the things they have been through sometimes seems impossible, but I have a hope that God will guide them to an extraordinary future."
