News and updates from our members
Jenner Family Beef
Jenner Family Beef is looking forward to the upcoming summer grilling season.  Although we love our savory slow cooking cuts of beef in the winter time, there is nothing like a grilled burger and steaks that everyone looks forward to in the summer! Dotty's, Three Little Birds, Camp Unalaee, and the Etna Farmers Market continue to be our locally raised beef supporters.  We also continue to take private orders, and deliver locally for free.

Some exciting news lately has been that Clove and Hoof in Oakland California was featured on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Ferraro.  Both Analeise and her husband John are butchers.  John is a chef with over 25 years of experience, and his Jenner Cheesy Sliced Beef Sandwich is out of this world! They use the entire beef animal, even processing their own beef bone broth which is so popular now.  We are so proud and happy to be their "Beef Ranch".  They are located at 400 S. Broadway in Oakland, Ca if you happen to be in the area.

We look forward to seeing you this summer at the Etna Farmers Market at Dotty's.  Market Baskets start in June, and the Market starts in July.
Mad Players Infect The Chamber!
The MAD PLAYERS, Madeleine Ayres, Dee Jones and Annie Kramer are pleased to be new members of the Scott Valley Chamber of Commerce. Their contribution to the well being of our wonderful community is in the area of the performing arts. With three award winning melodramas produced in recent years in Scott Valley, this team of writers decided to incorporate their three names into the “MAD PLAYERS” and call themselves a community entity dedicated to bringing hilarious entertainment to the people of Siskiyou County. The trio write, direct and produce timely melodramas that reflect the foibles, concerns and unique qualities of Scott Valley and Siskiyou County. They have taken on the issue of invasive plant species in “The Marlahan Mustard Mystery” and, most recently, the controversy over bringing in big box stores in “Common Cents or What's In Store?”. The only stated goal of their organization is to have fun, which keeps things focused and honest.

The MAD PLAYERS work closely with non profits including the Scott Valley Theatre Company and the Rotary Club of Scott Valley to produce shows that benefit these organizations who then, in turn, directly benefit the larger community. They would like to write a new melodrama each

year but if it takes longer than a year they have found that life goes on. Their stable of dedicated actors are busy students, parents, workers and artists who do their best to make the shows the hits they have proven to be.

Anyone interested in being a part of a MAD PLAYERS production, can call (530) 5989157.Actors should (a) be willing to memorize lines and (b) have a pulse. Sometimes “a” is overlooked but “b” is pretty important.
Etna Motel Has New Owners
As spring in our valley is always an exciting time, the times at Motel Etna are no different.  It is with great excitement that Brandon and Jaclyn Fawaz announce they are the new owners of The Etna Motel—yes, there has been a slight name change, too.

Brandon has lived in Scott Valley since 1984.  He is a graduate of Etna High School, and upon completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Business has continued as a first-generation farmer to operate a hay farm and agricultural services business in Siskiyou county.  Brandon has always been a believer in being economically diversified and this new adventure allows such an opportunity.

Jaclyn moved here from the Bay Area in the spring of 2009.  It was a big change from city life, but she quickly grew to love living in the country.  While walking into Etna or taking Nolan to school, she always noticed the “nice, cute, little” motel off to the side of her path and thought that might be fun to run.  As if being Mom to Nolan and Weston wasn’t enough, Jaclyn decided she too wished for the chance to be part of the wonderful business community in Scott Valley.

One day while Brandon and Jaclyn were talking with Rich Cloutman of United Country Real Estate, they asked about the motel in Etna and when it might be for sale.  Little did they know, it had been put on the market only 30 minutes prior to their question!  The next 90 days would be the beginning of a very exciting opportunity for the Fawaz family.

While The Etna Motel currently has a great reputation for being a nice and clean place to stay, the new owners are very committed to not only maintaining that reputation, but bringing the motel into modern times.  If you haven’t already, please find and “like” The Etna Motel’s Facebook page.  Stay tuned and watch for subtle improvements to come along throughout the future.

The Etna Motel is open 365 days per year and will do their best to accommodate as many special needs of their guests as possible.  This may range from accepting packages for their guests to late night check-ins when needed to a large enough parking lot for a pickup and trailer to turn around.  Brandon and Jaclyn have a couple living on-site for daily assistance along with themselves living only a city lot away, ensuring they will always be there for their guests.
