Students from Cristo Rey Kansas City and Center High School spent a successful day job shadowing at HDR Constructors, Inc. HDR staff shared local projects and introduced students to HDR's wide scope of work in progress across the nation. Thanks to HDR for sharing the rewards of a STEM career with local STEM students. More than 30 high school students attended the GEW-KC Take an Idea to Market Workshop sponsored by KC STEM Alliance and Kauffman Foundation. Held at Kauffman Labs on Thursday, November 21st, the event featured five successful entrepreneurs (Graham Ripple, PaleoFit; Tim Sylvester, Integrated Roadways; Eze Redwood, U-Hoops; Kaele Stock, Olio Digital and Marcos Chaddad, Neighbor-ly) sharing personal experience and expertise in taking an idea from conception to start-up. The conversation was geared toward Project Lead the Way students working on Senior Capstone projects. Moderator Sara Davidson, a business and marketing strategist, guided participants and panelists through an insightful discussion surrounding strategies used to overcome early obstacles and create a more effective launch.

PROJECT LEAD THE WAY CHALLENGE: This week, during Computer Science Education Week, December 9-15, participate in the "Hour of Code" movement. The event is a one-hour introduction to computer science designed to "demystify computer science and encourage interest in the field." For more information visit
By 2020, projects the existence of one million more computer science jobs than there are students currently studying to fill them. KC STEM Alliance is working to fill that need.
