Student DNA Decoding Challenge

Children's Mercy will invite high school students to decode the DNA sequences displayed on the outside windows of the Children’s Mercy Research Institute in a real-world learning challenge to be unveiled next month.

Students will decipher the DNA sequences represented on the building to determine which gene variants were discovered in patients at Children’s Mercy. They can even take the investigation a step further to identify the clinical implications of the gene variants.

Following the challenge, students will be invited to a roundtable discussion led by Dr. Tom Curran, the research institute’s Executive Director and Chief Scientific Officer, and other leaders to learn more about how genetics are the key to unlocking hope and answers for kids.
