Term 1 - Friday 8th October 2021
Harvest Festival
This week, all pupils attended St. Mary's Church, where Rev. David Gillard led a Worship around the theme of Harvest and giving to others.

Thank you so much to all our pupils, parents and carers for being extremely generous in their donations towards one of the local charities that we support: Eastbourne Foodbank.

Year 4 children, as part of the Roman unit of work, visited Pevensey Castle - site of Roman ruins of Andreida.  Thank you for all our parents and carers for your support.

Parents and carers have told us that you would like more information ahead of time about what is coming up in the children's learning each term.  Before next term we will share with you a topic guide for each year group explaining some of the topics, themes and books the children will be learning about.

In the meantime, you can find a overview of what children will be learning across the year by clicking below:

Well done to all the children who have been busy using DoodleMaths at home and in school this week. Well done to everyone for keeping your daily streaks going and a special mention to Joshua in Hogwarts class for earning over 800 stars this week!

Remember: 'Little and often' gets the best results!

There is more information for parents here.

Children can log into DoodleMaths through the school website or through downloading the APP

Please get in touch if your child has any issues logging on or accessing DoodleMaths on any devices.
Music of the Week
This week in worship, we have moved onto jazz as our new genre for music of the week.  We have been listening to 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong.  It has been fantastic to hear from parents that children have shared this with families at home.

What a Wonderful World

St Mary's Church are holding a Churchyard Tidying Morning on Saturday 16th October from 9.30am to 12.30am.

Would you like to come and join in making the village churchyard as beautiful as it can be?

There will be lots of jobs for all ages and abilities with free refreshments for the helpers.

As you know, we have high expectations for children's attendance in all year groups.  Absence, for whatever reason, disadvantages a child by creating gaps in their learning.  Research shows these gaps affect attainment when attendance falls below 95%.

Well done to  Middle Earth for 100% attendance this week. The whole school attendance this week was 96.4%!

Online Safety Focus at PaWS
Pokemon Go is a popular mobile game which is having a bit of a resurgence at the moment.  The game generally provides a positive experience, but there are still some safety concerns that parents will want to consider - see parent guide below.
Pokemon Go Parent Guide

Due to the pandemic, children are likely to have spent more time online and using devices this year than ever before. As a result, we have adapted our curriculum to have a focus on Online Safety with all year groups during Term 1.

Online Safety Webinars for parents
Open For Parents are offering FREE Online Safety Webinars.  To book onto any of these, please email your name, the title and date of the webinar you wish to attend to:

Thursday 14th October 12-2pm
Monday 1st November 12-2pm
Wednesday 1st December 6:30-8:30pm

You will find a parent a guide to a range of sites, games and APPs on the school website.  You will also find guidance for setting up parental controls.

If you ever have an online safety concern, please contact Mrs Delaney via the school office.
With a shorter window for pick up, the traffic is once again busier at these peak times.  We would ask all our parents to park safely and remember that there are lots of small children crossing roads and walking on pavements.

Parking permits are freely available for the castle car park at any time from the school office.

If you are concerned by dangerous parking you can report this to Operation Crackdown, which is a Sussex Police scheme and is available on the Operation Crackdown website or on 01243 64 22 22.
Covid Measures at PaWS
For all our information about the Covid-19 measures we have in place, including our updated risk assessment, please click here.

In-line with the DfE Schools Covid-19 Operation Guidance, we have contingency plans in place should their be further outbreaks.

Should the government guidance or the situation change,  we will alert families as soon as possible to any changes to measures or procedures.
Family Wellbeing
All of us at some point would benefit from support to get through difficult times in our lives.  Covid-19 will also have impacted on families in different ways.  Click below to our website for some links to local and national services for support with family wellbeing and mental health.
PE Kits and Uniform
Following parent feedback, we have decided to continue to keep children coming into school in their PE Kits on the day they have PE this year

Children should wear plain black trainers/plimsolls on these days.  Brightly coloured trainers are not acceptable.  They should wear their school jumpers over the top in colder weather.

School uniform is important to help children feel equal to their peers and creates a sense of community and pride in the the school.
School uniform can now be purchased online from Price and Buckland Schoolwear The service provided includes free delivery into school twice a month.

We do have some stock still available in school via ParentMail.  Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Broken Limbs
If your child has had an accident or injury requiring them to be in a cast/sling/support boot etc., please contact the school office prior to them returning to school.  We will then complete a short assessment of their needs before they return.  This will ensure we can offer the best care and support to them.
For information about how to register your child for free or subsidised school milk, follow this link.
Our Vision
“At PaWS we have an ambitious vision to work in partnerships with families, the church and the wider community to prepare all our children with the knowledge, skills, values and behaviours they will need in order to flourish, reach their potential and enjoy fullness of life.”
