Term 2 - Friday 12th November 2021
Lest We Forget
Our pupils and staff spent time on Thursday thinking about those we have lost. The theme of our Worship was: Pause. Reflect. Remember.

Within our Worship, each member of our community was given a ‘heart of hope’ button. They held on tight to their buttons before spending time thinking about those we have loved and lost. They also thought about those who have fought or continue to fight for our country before placing their buttons into our ‘Jar of Hope and Love’. This was such a reflective and compassionate worship.

It was great to see so many children wearing their uniforms for cubs, brownies, scouts, etc.  They all seemed very proud to represent their clubs.

Have a fantastic weekend

Improving Pevensey Recreation Ground
Pevensey and Westham Sports Club in conjunction with Pevensey Parish Council are planning improvement works to Pevensey Recreation Ground, which will include development of facilities for disabled visitors and changing and shower areas for female athletes. The scheme also gives the opportunity to provide more community space and enhance the Ground as a whole. These ambitions will only be met if we secure funding from various Grants and funding schemes, including Sports England.

Pevensey Parish Council have asked for us to share the link below for you to be able to give your views.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Narnia Class for having most children regularly using DoodleMaths and having 75% of the class in the Green by the end of the week.  They have earned themselves extra breaktime today.

Following our Home Learning review, DoodleMaths is a key element to what we expect children in Key Stage 2 to access regularly outside of school.  If you are having any issues logging in, please speak to your child's class teacher or follow the link for more information.

Next week's challenge is to see which class has the most children on at least a 7 day streak in each class
Pupil Supervision
At collection, please keep your children with you.  Staff at the gate have stopped several younger children recently who have wondered off from their adults and tried to leave the school on their own.

Our collection protocols mean that, unless you have given your permission for older children to leave by themselves, staff will handover your child directly to you.  At this point they are parents responsibility.  A member of SLT is on the gate, however, with the number of people leaving, we cannot guarantee that we will catch everyone.

In addition, some pupils waiting for siblings are climbing on the fencing or scooting around the playground.  There is not an overly long period to wait between classes and we would ask that all children are supervised by their adults.

We will recap these massages with the children next week.

Hearing Tests
We do not routinely test hearing for children, however School or Parents can complete a referral form to request one if there are concerns. Our referral form can be completed on our website www.eastsussexchildren.nhs.uk

Music of the Week
This week the children have enjoyed coming into worship to the sound of 'Brave' sung by 'The Shires' as we have continue to explore Country and Western music.

Can the children tell which member of staff has seen them perform live?

Online Safety at PaWS
Many children in primary schools are aware of Netflix's 'Squid Game' despite the 15 rating.  Parents and carers should find the information on the following link useful.
'Squid Game' - What Parents Need To Know

Online Safety Webinars for parents
Open For Parents are offering FREE Online Safety Webinars.  To book onto any of these, please email your name, the title and date of the webinar you wish to attend to: info@openforparents.org.uk.

Wednesday 1st December 6:30-8:30pm

You will find a parent a guide to a range of sites, games and APPs on the school website.  You will also find guidance for setting up parental controls.

https://pevenseyschool.org.uk/safeguarding/online-safety/

If you ever have an online safety concern, please contact Mrs Delaney via the school office.

As you know, we have high expectations for children's attendance in all year groups.  Absence, for whatever reason, disadvantages a child by creating gaps in their learning.  Research shows these gaps affect attainment when attendance falls below 95%.

Well done to our top attenders this week:
1st - Wonderland - 98.7%
2nd - Fantasia  - 98%
3rd - Elves/Black Pearl - 97.9%

Parking
With a shorter window for pick up, the traffic is once again busier at these peak times.  We would ask all our parents to park safely and remember that there are lots of small children crossing roads and walking on pavements.

Parking permits are freely available for the castle car park at any time from the school office.

If you are concerned by dangerous parking you can report this to Operation Crackdown, which is a Sussex Police scheme and is available on the Operation Crackdown website or on 01243 64 22 22.
Covid Measures at PaWS
For all our information about the Covid-19 measures we have in place, including our updated risk assessment, please click here.

In-line with the DfE Schools Covid-19 Operation Guidance, we have contingency plans in place should their be further outbreaks.

Should the government guidance or the situation change,  we will alert families as soon as possible to any changes to measures or procedures.
Family Wellbeing
All of us at some point would benefit from support to get through difficult times in our lives.  Covid-19 will also have impacted on families in different ways.  Click below to our website for some links to local and national services for support with family wellbeing and mental health.

PE Kits and Uniform
Following parent feedback, we have decided to continue to keep children coming into school in their PE Kits on the day they have PE this year

Children should wear plain black trainers/plimsolls on these days.  Brightly coloured trainers are not acceptable.  They should wear their school jumpers over the top in colder weather.

School uniform is important to help children feel equal to their peers and creates a sense of community and pride in the the school.

Uniform
School uniform can now be purchased online from Price and Buckland Schoolwear The service provided includes free delivery into school twice a month.

Broken Limbs
If your child has had an accident or injury requiring them to be in a cast/sling/support boot etc., please contact the school office prior to them returning to school.  We will then complete a short assessment of their needs before they return.  This will ensure we can offer the best care and support to them.
For information about how to register your child for free or subsidised school milk, follow this link.
Our Vision
“At PaWS we have an ambitious vision to work in partnerships with families, the church and the wider community to prepare all our children with the knowledge, skills, values and behaviours they will need in order to flourish, reach their potential and enjoy fullness of life.”
(John 10:10)
