Term 2 - Thursday 16th December 2021
Merry Christmas
As you would expect, it has been a very busy week in school in the run up to Christmas.  Well done to all the movie stars in Early Years for their phenomenal nativity play.  I hope families enjoyed the Christmas songs we shared on ClassDojo.  Children have again all made a Christmas cards for different local community groups.  We also need to say as special thank you to the kitchen team for all their efforts this year especially for providing the children with a delicious Christmas dinner.

We have said goodbye to Jill Ferguson this week.  Jill has worked at PaWS for over 10 years and through her hard work and determination set up our Forest School which I know both children and parents value highly.  Penny Hotchkin has been working along side Jill for the last few weeks and will be running Forest School alongside Rachel Hobbs going forward.  Penny has a wealth of experience with outdoor learning and in leading Forest School.

We are also saying goodbye to Sandy Wootton, our Business Manager.  Sandy has led the office team at the school for over 5 years and she has been instrumental in helping the school overcome the many challenges of Covid-19.  From January, Rachel Smith will become our new Business Manager and Kate Brain will be joining the finance team.

As always thank you for you ongoing support.  We have plans in place for January should we need to escalate our Covid-19 measures in school - we will keep you updated over the break should there be any changes to the national guidance which impacts on schools.

I hope you and your families all enjoy a fantastic Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in January 2022.  The first day for pupils will be Wednesday 5th January.

Family Wellbeing
All of us at some point would benefit from support to get through difficult times in our lives.  Covid-19 will also have impacted on families in different ways.  Click below to our website for some links to local and national services for support with family wellbeing and mental health.
Can you be a Christmas Doodle Star?

Well done to all the children in Key Stage 2 who are now regularly accessing DoodleMaths at home.  We are now starting to see how this is supporting pupils in filling in gaps and building on their work in class.

Thank you so much to all our parents and carers for you support in this.

We are challenging all the children to keep up with their DoodleMaths over Christmas with certificates to those who maintain their steaks over the holiday.

If you are ever having any issues logging in, please speak to your child's class teacher or follow the link for more information.

Topic Guides
Please click below to find this term's topic guides for each year group.
Please can we remind parents that all children should be in school by 8.45am.

When pupils arrive late, they miss out on essential instructions given at the beginning of the lesson. This can significantly reduce achievement, regardless of academic ability. Children may also feel awkward arriving to the classroom when everyone else is settled. Furthermore, when one pupil arrives late, it disrupts the entire class and the teacher. Therefore, everyone’s education is impacted.
Hearing Tests
We do not routinely test hearing for children, however School or Parents can complete a referral form to request one if there are concerns. Our referral form can be completed on our website
With a shorter window for pick up, the traffic is once again busier at these peak times.  We would ask all our parents to park safely and remember that there are lots of small children crossing roads and walking on pavements.

Parking permits are freely available for the castle car park at any time from the school office.

If you are concerned by dangerous parking you can report this to Operation Crackdown, which is a Sussex Police scheme and is available on the Operation Crackdown website or on 01243 64 22 22.
Covid Measures at PaWS
For all our information about the Covid-19 measures we have in place, including our updated risk assessment, please click here.

In-line with the DfE Schools Covid-19 Operation Guidance, we have contingency plans in place should their be further outbreaks.

Should the government guidance or the situation change,  we will alert families as soon as possible to any changes to measures or procedures.
Broken Limbs
If your child has had an accident or injury requiring them to be in a cast/sling/support boot etc., please contact the school office prior to them returning to school.  We will then complete a short assessment of their needs before they return.  This will ensure we can offer the best care and support to them.
PE Kits and Uniform
Following parent feedback, we have decided to continue to keep children coming into school in their PE Kits on the day they have PE this year

Children should wear plain black trainers/plimsolls on these days.  Brightly coloured trainers are not acceptable.  They should wear their school jumpers over the top in colder weather.

School uniform is important to help children feel equal to their peers and creates a sense of community and pride in the the school.
Improving Pevensey Recreation Ground
Pevensey and Westham Sports Club in conjunction with Pevensey Parish Council are planning improvement works to Pevensey Recreation Ground, which will include development of facilities for disabled visitors and changing and shower areas for female athletes. The scheme also gives the opportunity to provide more community space and enhance the Ground as a whole. These ambitions will only be met if we secure funding from various Grants and funding schemes, including Sports England.

Pevensey Parish Council have asked for us to share the link below for you to be able to give your views.
