Term 1 - Friday 24th September 2021
Welcome to our new Early Years children

This week we welcomed our new pupils to Early Years.  They have has a busy week learning routines, making friends and enjoying lunch in the hall with an adult from home.

Our Year 5 children have embodied our school value of kindness.  After writing letters to welcome a 'buddy' to PaWS, today they visited the children and spent time with thier buddy.
‘Harvest Celebration of Flowers’
Today, many of the children visited St Mary's to see the Harvest Celebration of Flowers displays around the church - see David's message below for more details.

As you would expect our children were incredibly respectful and David commented that they were a 'credit to the school'.
A message from David

“Hi, I’m David, the Vicar from St Mary’s, the church next door. It is fantastic to be part of the PaWS community and to be involved in some of the worships that take place. It's been great to see the children in the church as well.  I just want to let you know about a couple of events that are taking place in the church this weekend.

On Saturday we will be opening up the bell tower for visitors between 2pm and 4pm.

We are holding a ‘Harvest Celebration of Flowers’ as part of our church celebration of Harvest. You are most welcome to come over and see the beauty of our church building. We are also holding an ‘All Age Service’ on the Sunday, 9.45am which will be fun (lasts around 50 minutes) and there is a special invitation to any PaWS families who’d like to come to do so.

If you do, you may want to bring a can or a packet of food which we will pass on to the Eastbourne Foodbank. I look forward so seeing you around over the coming months!"

Parent/Carer Forum
Thank you to so much to those parents who joined us on Thursday afternoon for our first Parent Forum of the year.  We discussed the topic of home learning and will soon be sharing with all parents our revised policy and expectations.

Please click below to see some of the thoughts discussed in the meeting and those shared in advance by email.

Home Learning Padlet

If you have any topics which you feel would be helpful to discuss as a group of parents with the school, please email:
Music of the Week
We have added 'Music of the Week' to our school worships which children listen to as the enter and leave the hall.  We introduce children to the music and talk about how it makes us feel.  This week's music was the classical piece 'Adagio for Strings' by Samuel Barber - ask your child if they can remember the composer and where he comes from.

Adagio for Strings by William Barber
With a shorter window for pick up, the traffic is once again busier at these peak times.  We would ask all our parents to park safely and remember that there are lots of small children crossing roads and walking on pavements.

Parking permits are freely available for the castle car park at any time from the school office.
Covid Measures at PaWS
For all our information about the Covid-19 measures we have in place, including our updated risk assessment, please click here.

In-line with the DfE Schools Covid-19 Operation Guidance, we have contingency plans in place should their be further outbreaks.

Should the government guidance or the situation change,  we will alert families as soon as possible to any changes to measures or procedures.
Family Wellbeing
All of us at some point would benefit from support to get through difficult times in our lives.  Covid-19 will also have impacted on families in different ways.  Click below to our website for some links to local and national services for support with family wellbeing and mental health.
PE Kits and Uniform
Following parent feedback, we have decided to continue to keep children coming into school in their PE Kits on the day they have PE this year

Children should wear plain black trainers/plimsolls on these days.  Brightly coloured trainers are not acceptable.  They should wear their school jumpers over the top in colder weather.

School uniform is important to help children feel equal to their peers and creates a sense of community and pride in the the school.
Online Safety Focus at PaWS
Due to the pandemic, children are likely to have spent more time online and using devices this year than ever before. As a result, we have adapted our curriculum to have a focus on Online Safety with all year groups during Term 1.

Online Safety Webinars for parents
Open For Parents are offering FREE Online Safety Webinars.  To book onto any of these, please email your name, the title and date of the webinar you wish to attend to:

Broken Limbs
If your child has had an accident or injury requiring them to be in a cast/sling/support boot etc., please contact the school office prior to them returning to school.  We will then complete a short assessment of their needs before they return.  This will ensure we can offer the best care and support to them.
