Term 2 - Friday 19th November 2021
Children in Need
Thank you to all our families for your Children in Need donations today.  We raised £378 so far to support the charity that changes the lives of children and young people across the UK.

You can see an overview of this and other charity and community work the school has been involved in on our website.  As well us supporting others, this helps to engender a sense of kindness in our pupils in-line with our school values.
Our Community

This week we have also been exploring the theme of bullying.  We have talked about how it would feel to be bullied and what we all need to do if we see bullying happening.

If you ever have any concern regarding issues of bullying please contact the school straight away.  You can find a copy of our Anti-Bullying policy below:

Enjoy your weekend

Online Safety Agreements
Working with Mr Carter, the PaWS School Council have created Online Safety Agreements for the school.  These will be shared with the children in Worship next week and are applicable to the children both at home and in school.

Early Years and Key Stage 1

Key Stage 2

Please take some time to talk about these agreements with your child at home next week.

From picking a few weeds to digging out bushes, helping out with our veg patch to even cementing posts in for our outdoor learning areas. Any available time would be greatly received.

Please contact Rachel Hobbs and Rachel Smith for more information:
or call us on 01323 762269

We have seen a huge increase in the childrens use of DoodleMaths at home as part of their home learning over the past 2 weeks.

Thank you so much for you support with this.

The activities on DoodleMaths will help your child make progress and support with filling any gaps your child may have.

Well done to Middle Earth class who have the most children currently on at least a 7 day streak.  They earned themselves extra breaktime today.

Following our Home Learning review, DoodleMaths is a key element to what we expect children in Key Stage 2 to access regularly outside of school.  If you are having any issues logging in, please speak to your child's class teacher or follow the link for more information.
Music of the Week
Linking to our school value of 'Resilience', this week the children have enjoyed coming into worship to 'I'm Still Standing' by 'Elton John'.

Improving Pevensey Recreation Ground
Pevensey and Westham Sports Club in conjunction with Pevensey Parish Council are planning improvement works to Pevensey Recreation Ground, which will include development of facilities for disabled visitors and changing and shower areas for female athletes. The scheme also gives the opportunity to provide more community space and enhance the Ground as a whole. These ambitions will only be met if we secure funding from various Grants and funding schemes, including Sports England.

Pevensey Parish Council have asked for us to share the link below for you to be able to give your views.

Hearing Tests
We do not routinely test hearing for children, however School or Parents can complete a referral form to request one if there are concerns. Our referral form can be completed on our website
Online Safety at PaWS
Many children in primary schools are aware of Netflix's 'Squid Game' despite the 15 rating.  Parents and carers should find the information on the following link on the school website useful.
'Squid Game' - What Parents Need To Know

Online Safety Webinars for parents
Open For Parents are offering FREE Online Safety Webinars.  To book onto any of these, please email your name, the title and date of the webinar you wish to attend to:

Wednesday 1st December 6:30pm-8:30pm

You will find a parent a guide to a range of sites, games and APPs on the school website.  You will also find guidance for setting up parental controls.

If you ever have an online safety concern, please contact Mrs Delaney via the school office.

As you know, we have high expectations for children's attendance in all year groups.  Absence, for whatever reason, disadvantages a child by creating gaps in their learning.  Research shows these gaps affect attainment when attendance falls below 95%.

Well done to our top attenders this week:
1st - Emerald City - 98.6%
Joint 2nd - Wonderland/Middle Earth - 98%

With a shorter window for pick up, the traffic is once again busier at these peak times.  We would ask all our parents to park safely and remember that there are lots of small children crossing roads and walking on pavements.

Parking permits are freely available for the castle car park at any time from the school office.

If you are concerned by dangerous parking you can report this to Operation Crackdown, which is a Sussex Police scheme and is available on the Operation Crackdown website or on 01243 64 22 22.
Covid Measures at PaWS
For all our information about the Covid-19 measures we have in place, including our updated risk assessment, please click here.

In-line with the DfE Schools Covid-19 Operation Guidance, we have contingency plans in place should their be further outbreaks.

Should the government guidance or the situation change,  we will alert families as soon as possible to any changes to measures or procedures.
Family Wellbeing
All of us at some point would benefit from support to get through difficult times in our lives.  Covid-19 will also have impacted on families in different ways.  Click below to our website for some links to local and national services for support with family wellbeing and mental health.
PE Kits and Uniform
Following parent feedback, we have decided to continue to keep children coming into school in their PE Kits on the day they have PE this year

Children should wear plain black trainers/plimsolls on these days.  Brightly coloured trainers are not acceptable.  They should wear their school jumpers over the top in colder weather.

School uniform is important to help children feel equal to their peers and creates a sense of community and pride in the the school.
School uniform should be purchased online from Price and Buckland Schoolwear The service provided includes free delivery into school twice a month.
Broken Limbs
If your child has had an accident or injury requiring them to be in a cast/sling/support boot etc., please contact the school office prior to them returning to school.  We will then complete a short assessment of their needs before they return.  This will ensure we can offer the best care and support to them.
For information about how to register your child for free or subsidised school milk, follow this link.
Our Vision
“At PaWS we have an ambitious vision to work in partnerships with families, the church and the wider community to prepare all our children with the knowledge, skills, values and behaviours they will need in order to flourish, reach their potential and enjoy fullness of life.”
(John 10:10)
