Term 4 - Friday 19th March 2021
School Census

This week, we have all learnt about the census.  The children have thought about the purpose of the census and what the government might do with then information we tell them.  Some of the children's ideas included:

"We have a census so that they know what people need" - Nate Y4

'To see if there are too many children.  Oh no - we might not have enough schools!"  - Nico Y1

The government have a census because it tells them how busy it is and what new things, like transport, might be needed in different areas" - Theo Y4

"I think it is just the government being nosy!" - Oliver Y2

The School Council have also carried out our own school census so that we can use some of the children's ideas to help us make decisions about things in school.

You might find it interesting to access some local census data and explore this further at home with you child:

The children have enjoyed their mufti day to support Red Nose Day and we can let you know that we managed to raise £413.51 for Comic Relief.
Thank you for your support.
This weeks attendance was 96.5% across the whole school.

Well done to Emerald City Class for 100% attendance this week!
INSET Days ahead

We have our final INSET day for staff training at the end of this term - Thursday 1st April 2021.

I know families may be planning ahead and thinking about going away, if we are allowed, during the summer.  At the start of 2021/22 we will start the year with two INSET days for staff so the first day back for pupils will be Friday 3rd September 2021.  There will be a further three INSET days throughout the year and we will let you know the dates for these once they have been planned.

You can find the East Sussex term dates for next year here.
When coming on to site, we ask all adults to maintain social distancing and, unless exempt, to wear a face covering.  Thank you for your support.

Online Safety

Primary aged children with a mobile phone do not always make the best choices about the messages they send each other out of school.  Parents and carers  may find the BBC Own It APP helpful.   The APP can help children to lead a positive online life. It comes with a special keyboard that gives helpful tips and friendly advice as they type, plus it has a diary feature to help children track their feelings.

You will find a parent a guide to a range of sites, games and APPs on the school website.  You will also find guidance for setting up parental controls.

If you ever have an online safety concern, please contact Mrs Delaney via the school office.

Bereavement Support
We know that some families have suffered from a bereavement over recent weeks.  In school, we have a collection of supportive books for children which families are welcome to borrow.  They deal with sadness and loss and children may find them helpful.  We also have a dedicated page on our website, with resources and links to support families.

As always, please contact us if there is anything we can do to support.
