Term 2 - Friday 11th December 2020
Goodbye to Jayne

As we approach the last week of term, we will soon be saying farewell to Jayne Ratcliffe.  Jayne has worked in the school kitchen at PaWS for 27 years and is retiring on 18 December 2020!  I'm sure you all join us in wishing her a very happy retirement.

I would like to thank UpCountry Garden Centre in Stone Cross for kindly donating our Christmas trees this year.  Thank you also to the PFT for providing the lights.

We had a trial run of our lockdown procedures this week just in case we ever have a concern where we need all the children to remain quiet and safe inside the school building.  The children were absolutely brilliant!  They behaved sensibly and had some really thoughtful questions about what to do at different times of the day or in different situations.  In the unlikely event that we would have to do this, we know our children are prepared.

It felt very festive today and the children were excited as they wore their jumpers for Christmas Jumper day.  We shall let you know next week how much we raised for Save the Children.  For Christmas parties next week, rather than jumpers, children are welcome to bring in some Christmas headwear - it would be fantastic to see some home made Christmas crowns.

Have a great weekend.

Covid Update

As some of you may be aware some other local schools have had to close class bubbles.  I just want to clarify to you some of the guidance from Public Health England should they ask a school to close a bubble:
  • Remember that for the vast majority of people, coronavirus is a mild illness
  • Parents and carers of all children in the bubble will be asked to collect their child and the children will be asked to isolate for 14 days.
  • Unless a child develops symptoms, they will not need to have a test
  • The rest of your household, including siblings do not need to isolate - unless anybody in the household develops symptoms.
  • All other children in the school, including any siblings of children in the closed bubble, should continue to attend school.
Christmas Cards
Our School Council is made up of pupils from every class from Year 1 to Year 6.  One of the topics we discussed at this week's meetings was Christmas Cards.  For the last few years the school has chosen to discourage children to send cards to each other in school as we consider the environmental impact.  The School Council felt that although it is nice to get cards, they voted to continue to think of the environment first.
In light of the Covid-19 measures we have in place, it is also important that we minimise the amount of things coming in and out of school from different households.
