Three Phone Calls
If you missed the recent "Revenue Neutral Solution to Curbing Emissions", you can still be part of the effort.
Sustainable Belmont members and Citizen's Climate Lobby (CCL) are asking our members of Congress to address global warming. On June 23, people across the country will be calling representatives in Congress in support of addressing global warming. Please contact our representatives in Congress – Clark, Warren and Markey – on Monday, June 23.
Here's a sample script for your calls:
“Hi, my name is _____ and I live in ______. I’m very concerned about global warming, and I want the Congressman/Congresswoman to consider serious legislation to fix this problem, [such as a revenue-neutral carbon fee*]. Thank you, and have a nice day.”
Sen., Ed Markey: 202-224-3121 (ask for Mr. Markey’s office)
Sen., Elizabeth Warren: 202-224-4543
Rep., Katherine Clark: 202-225-2836
*A revenue-neutral carbon fee makes carbon based fuels more expensive while providing consumers money to offset these increased expenses—without increasing the size of government. The goal is to change behaviors away from increasingly expensive fossil fuels to low-carbon energy sources. This is the solution many economists agree will have the most impact in lowering greenhouse gas emissions which are heating our tiny planet, and spurring investment in cleaner energy sources.

When it rains it pours...in a good way! Sustainable Belmont in collaboration with the Town of Belmont and Great American Rain Barrel sold 86
rain barrels this year. Each barrel holds 60 gallons of rainwater – that is a great reuse and stormwater diversion rate! This is a fun volunteer gig because folks are excited about their new purchase and eager to get started. Thank you!!
This year's "demonstration" rain barrel will be donated to the Wellington School in recognition of their hard work on green intitiatives and energy reductions. Congratulations, Wellington!!
