KCD Farm Planners’ Almanac - Summer Solstice Edition

Welcome to the 2020 Summer Solstice Edition
of the Farm Planners’ Almanac!

KCD’s Farm Team hopes that our community has been able to stay safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.

We have been working hard and collaborating with multiple local agencies to develop a comprehensive list of resources available for farmers in the wake of COVID-19. We understand that trying to navigate all of the COVID-19 help options can feel like a daunting process, especially when someone may already be in a stressful situation.

We have information and resources including:

  • funding and financial support
  • farm assistance
  • labor help
  • safety protocols
  • marketing opportunities
  • free legal guidance
  • business management,
  • local, state, and federal loans (including CARES act programs)
  • free pet food
  • complementary internet locations
  • stress management

and much more!

If you, or someone you know, would like help finding farm resources please contact the Farm Help Line and Navigation Service by e-mailing Carrie King or calling 425-773-1864.

Your KCD Farm Conservation Planning Team,
Carrie King, Jay Mirro, Megan Weldon and Matt Maria

Summer Updates

The farm team is currently working from home, but are now able to schedule farm site visits. For your safety and ours, we will wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart at all times.

We can also offer “virtual” visits and meetings using Zoom, as an option for those who might not be comfortable with an in-person visit at this time.

Our equipment loan program has reopened, with new safety protocols in place.
We would like to welcome our newest farm resource planner, Matt Maria to the team. Matt has been a team member at KCD since 2016, and most recently was part of the Outreach and Engagement Team. We are excited to welcome Matt as the newest member of the Farm Team!

King County’s Brand New Local Food Finder:
Expand your business

In response to COVID-19, Farm King County created the Local Food Finder. The Local Food Finder will be an interactive map that allows consumers to search for local food based on products, location, and types of sales outlets. It will connect consumers to your CSA, farmstand, or online business.

A growing number of King County residents are trying to find and purchase directly from local farmers. To help you share information with these shoppers about your products and how to find them, King County has created an interactive map that will allow consumers to find local food based on your farm’s pick up or delivery locations, types of products, or services offered.

Add your farm business to the map.

At the end of the form, you can elect to be automatically listed in Tilth Alliance’s statewide, online FarmGuide and in the future online Washington State Food and Farm Atlas.
