The Greatest Show
14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
Imagine a time before modern entertainment. Before TV, Netflix and fail videos. Jesus was the biggest show in town. His words were electrifying. His miracles were almost unbelievable. No wonder the news about him is spreading through the whole countryside.
It’s in our nature to spread news. We are all evangelists of something. For most at the moment, it’s your latest Netflix binge show. For some, it’s Kombucha, gut bacteria and the latest trend in health (no judgement Kombucha drinkers).
We love to tell people about something great we have found. Now, it would be overly simplistic to just say, so why don’t we want to spread the news about Jesus… because while everyone wants to know what new TV series is going to stop them from scratching around on the Netflix menu screen. No one is asking over dinner, “Hey… found any good hope for humanity lately?”
And yet the Jesus reality epic is one show that people cannot afford to miss. They may not be interested, they may not think they need to know about it. But they’re wrong. So next time you are evangelising about your latest TV show or adventure or activity, be reminded of the greatest news you possess.
Heavenly Father, help us today to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Help us to make and take opportunities to tell people about the greatest show on earth, the redemption of sinners.
