There’s lots happening this weekend, and the weather promises to be a-mazing! We hope you have lots of opportunity to get outside and enjoy the city’s amazing public spaces over the next couple of days.
In the event that you’re near Commercial Drive on Saturday, or hanging downtown on Sunday, here are a couple of the projects we’ll be working on. Maybe you’d like to join?
#LanewayLivingroom – Grandma’s House – Saturday, July 29
As you may have read in our earlier newsletter
, the VPSN (with a grant from VIVA Vancouver
and support from great neighbours), is transforming two laneways into fun and friendly spaces using upcycled furniture, flea market finds, and pallets.
The day-long activations will showcase the placemaking potential of these spaces using simple materials, recycled ingredients, and a little quirk.
This Saturday, join us Grandma’s House
for the first of these two events.
We'll be transforming a small laneway into place of cozy nostalgia. Expect food, games, big band music, classic movies, and maybe even a spot of afternoon tea.
The event takes place just off of Commercial Drive,
12pm – 9pm,
(on the laneway between Parker Street and Napier Street. (The nearest address is 1027 Commercial Drive).

Bute Street Plazas + Public Life Research – Sunday, July 30
The City now has three different types of plazas installed along Bute Street, and this Sunday we will be doing some simple, comparative public life research to see how these various spaces are working.
We are still looking for a few volunteers to help out – particularly with late afternoon (3:00-6:00pm) and early evening (6:00-9:00pm) shifts. (There are other spots available as well).
Previous research work is helpful but not necessary. We'll provide instructions, supplies and other goodies. Your job, hanging out in a public plaza for a few hours and people watching!

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
