Starting this week, I’m going to try out something new and different as I share with you a bit of what’s going on in our church. This newsletter will replace blogs and mailed newsletters of yore as well as provide some in-depth looks at some of our events and opportunities.
On top of that, I’m going to share a bit about what has my attention that might interest you as well. Hope you enjoy it!
P.S. I could really use some naming help here. This is too sterile of a title for something this much fun. Help me out with suggestions!
What I’m Reading
I shared this past Sunday that I have been accepted to a Doctor of Ministry program called the Beeson Pastor Program. I received the syllabi for my two classes in August back in April and have been getting my reading done in the process. I thought I’d share with you a bit of what I’m reading in case you find it helpful or interesting.
This is the fourth book I’ve read this Spring and it’s by one of my favorite authors (he also wrote the classic Celebration of Discipline). It’s just what I need spiritually right now. He looks at 6 different streams within Christianity that provide much needed water for dry souls. Check it out.
Blogs to Check Out
I read several blogs every day to help keep me informed and on my toes. I’ll highlight three of them here. Give them a shot.
Seedbed Feed from Asbury Seminary. My alma mater’s contribution to the ministry of a whole lot of Wesleyan-minded people.
Mike Breen. This guy gets discipleship. I’m listening to and reading him a lot so catch up with his posts to know where my brain is.
Logan Leadership. Some great posts on Christian leadership.
Coming Up in Worship
New song this Sunday (9AM). It’s called “Forever Reign”. Listen to it a few times before Sunday.
Starting Sunday, we’re going to have a new sermon series A View from Above: The Old Testament a Book at a Time. Promo video here.
Since I will be gone both for vacation and for school four Sundays this summer, I want to introduce you to the people who will be preaching on the Sundays I’m gone. I’m so glad to share that we aren’t looking for people outside the church to bring the message but people from within the church. I hope you will be praying for them. I know they are praying for you and are eager to serve you.
Melinda Southerly - July 1
