Texas-Squared Startup Newsletter Achieves 300th Issue

Today we celebrate the 300th issue of the Texas-Squared Startup Newsletter. Every week as I start to compile the most relevant startup news from across the State of Texas, I imagine that I’m fighting a battle to cover everything important. If I win the round for the week, my readers are armed with the most updated news to help understand our startup and investment landscape, and if I lose, it means that I’ve overlooked something significant and my readers miss out. I’m no warrior (obviously sitting in front of a screen all day certainly doesn’t help my dad bod to look as fit as a Spartan), but I do fight to make sure that founders, funders, and service providers that care about Texas startups have enough information to fight and win their own professional wars.
As we round the corner of 300 consistently published weeks of the newsletter, in addition to 37 issues of the sister publication for the Consumer Packaged Goods community ( I must thank my ‘Army’ without whom none of this would be possible: My employer, the startup-focused boutique law firm Egan Nelson ( and the attorney who hired me six (!) years ago, José Ancer who writes the excellent blog, my sponsors over the years including Dell for Entrepreneurs, WeWork, Flatiron School, and General Assembly, the professional journalists and publications of the articles themselves, and especially you the reader who spends part of your Sunday scanning through the 300+ headlines that go into every issue. I must give special recognition for meritorious service to my own Home Front: my wife Joy and our girls who graciously allow me the space of several hours every Saturday morning to put this together for you by hand since August 2015.
The best way for you to continue to support this war effort is to share the newsletter with your friends and colleagues and send intel on published news and events that are relevant to the Texas startup community to Thank you and remember: THIS. IS. TEXAS!

"A new East End innovation hub that aims to turn the Houston neighborhood into a national manufacturing epicenter opened its doors Thursday.

The 300,000 square-foot East End Maker Hub will serve as an incubator for high-tech manufacturing, medical and fabrication companies, officials said.

The facility’s developers aim to create 1,000 new companies over the next five years, which could potentially bring thousands of new advanced manufacturing jobs into the East End — an area that was once booming with a wide array of industrialized work.

The $38 million facility was mostly paid for with federal funds, distributed through the city of Houston. It was developed in partnership with tech incubator TXRX Labs and Urban Partnerships Community Development Corp." - Houston Public Media’s Lucio Vasquez
