My 5 Year Austin-versary - Austin Startup Quick Start Guide

It occurred to me last week that we’ve lived in Austin for five years now. In that half-decade, I’ve been fortunate enough to get involved with the rise of the fastest growing startup community in the nation. I’ve learned a few things that might help others acclimate to the Austin scene over and above where to get the best breakfast tacos.  As a little anniversary gift to a city that has been so good to us, I’ve put together this Austin Startup Quick-Start Guide
It is by no means comprehensive, but it should give a snapshot of resources and activities that will help get someone an overview of things that they could be doing when they first move to town. Please feel free to share it and I welcome any feedback or additions -

Texas-Squared Quick-Start Guide to getting involved with the Austin Startup community:

  1. Join these Facebook Groups:

  1. Read these blogs to get a feel for the vibe of the startup community
  1. Subscribe to the following email newsletters:
  1. Check out these maps and resources
  1. When you get into Austin make sure that you look at and for startup calendars and sign up for reminders about Austin Startup meetups, then attend the following events:
  1. If you’re just visiting Austin I’d recommend coming during the second week of March to participate in SXSW or in mid-September for Austin Startup Week,
otherwise the second week of a given month because of the Intro to the Startup Scene, Startup Grind and OpenCoffee are all typically scheduled for that week.
