Encouragement! - Guest Author Pat Castle
Dear <<First Name>>,

I'm excited to introduce our guest author for today's reflection, Pat Castle. Pat is the national director of the LIFE Runners.  A group that is Praying, Running and Walking for Life through public races.  The largest of these is the Rock N Roll marathon coming up here in St. Louis Sunday, October 21, 2012.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus."
~ Heb 12:1-2

As Coalition for Life teammates, we all "run with perseverance the race marked out for us" to save mothers, fathers, families, and innocent pre-born children. Crisis pregnancies are surrounded by discouragement: “you don’t have to do this”, “you would be stupid to do this”, “you deserve this choice.” Women deserve much better than abortion and the subsequent pain and tribulation.

A post-abortive mother shared, “if just one person would have said, 'you can do this', I wouldn’t have aborted my child.”

When encountering abortion-minded mothers, let’s commit to encouraging them by saying “you can do this, and I’ll help”. If we focus on helping the mothers, we will save babies…and mothers…and fathers…and families.

On 8 Feb, I took the day off to spend time on the St. Louis Planned Parenthood sidewalk with my Coalition STL LIFE Runners teammates (photos). While there, Coalition for Life STL founder Brian Westbrook trained us on sidewalk counseling.

In the attached photo at the STL Planned Parenthood gate, my glove is off because I extended a hand of protection for each abortion worker, mother, father, and grandparent that entered and a hand of healing for those departing that gate. Most of the pregnant mothers had their mind set and would not accept my hand, information, or offer to compensate them for their prepaid abortion. However, like searching for the one lost silver coin (Lk 15:8-10), after several dozen attempts, two abortion-minded mothers accepted my offer to accompany them to the ThriVe mobile medical center across the street and then to the ThriVe center a few blocks away.

While visiting with these pregnant mothers, I listened to their fears and encouraged them. For that day, those two mothers were spared, and those two children lived.

Let’s keep all abortion-minded mothers and post-abortive mothers in our prayers, that they will choose Life for their children. We are needed on the sidewalk to be the voice of encouragement, "you can do this, and I will help."

All In Christ for Pro-Life!

"I felt abortion was the only answer, but I still prayed for a sign. When I saw them praying outside the clinic, I knew it was an answer to my prayer."
