WELCOME TO OUR NEWSLETTER #6: New Family Migration Rules
With template letter link this time! Apologies!

#stopimmigrationrules

Migrants' Rights Scotland are actively supporting JCWI (the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants) and MRN (Migrants Rights Network) in opposing the immigration rule changes announced by Home Secretary Theresa May on June 11 and to come into effect already on July 9.

We are strongly encouraging migrant and BME (black/minority ethnic) communities as well as all other affected Scottish and British individuals to join in a campaign that's gaining momentum beyond its Twitter origins as #stopimmigrationrules. There are several ways to add your voice against the changes:

  • Write to your MP using the WriteToThem website (http://www.writetothem.com/) and ask him/her for a face-to-face meeting, either in Parliament or in your local area. For convenience, here is a template letter you may wish to use or shape your comments around. You could also invite your MP to attend a special July 9 meeting organised by MRN & JCWI. Details below.

  • Join in the Action on July 9: Attend and/or invite your MP (or MSP) to attend 'The new family migration rules: dividing families, disrupting integration' meeting on July 9 in the Houses of Parliament, Westminster from 6:30pm. Organised by MRN & JCWI, the meeting will be preceded by a demonstration outside the Home Office from 4:30pm. Full details and registration at http://familymigration.eventbrite.com/.

  • Get in touch with Juan Camilo (j.camilo@migrantsrights.org.uk) of MRN for other public meetings, campaigning or letter-writing.

  • Use the hashtag #stopimmigrationrules on Twitter.
