Catholic Schools Week 2017
PTO sends a big thank you to all of the volunteers that gave their time to help at the Catholic Schools Week Events: Dad’s Spaghetti Dinner, After Mass Hospitality and Grandparent/Special Friends Luncheon. These events are not possible without our wonderful volunteers! We had a great week celebrating the gift of Catholic schools, and of St. Joe’s in particular.

Parent Education Night: “College Financial Planning”
Join us for a special educational workshop presented by Colleen Lenard, Financial Advisor for Waddell and Reed, Inc. We will explore: Current and future college costs; sources of college funds; Financial Aid, scholarships and loans; 529 plans and Coverdell Education Savings Accounts. When you attend the workshop, you will receive a free 20 page workbook on college funding. Join us Tuesday, February 21, 6:30-8:00pm in Marian Hall. RSVP to Laura Veasy at laurav@stjoevan.org by February 14, to reserve your spot and workbook!

PTO President-Elect Needed for the 2017-2018 school-year
The position of PTO President is a two-year term, and Laura Ashton is approaching the end of her term and will not be available to serve next year. Therefore, we are searching for a President-Elect that can shadow Laura for the remainder of the year in order to hit the ground running next year. If you are interested, please contact Laura at pto@stjoevan.org.

Box Top Contest
It’s time again to start collecting those Box Tops! Bring in your Box Tops by Feb. 24. Please attach your Box Tops to the collection sheet and place them in a bag with the student’s name, homeroom teacher and grade. Please make sure the Box Tops have not expired, as we don’t receive credit for them. After March 1, we will announce the student and the class that brought in the most Box Tops. Prizes will be awarded to each. Good Luck!

The Great Kindness Challenge creates a culture of kindness
As part of our Catholic Schools Week celebration, the St. Joseph community came together and participated in the Great Kindness Challenge. The Great Kindness Challenge is a positive, proactive bullying prevention initiative. Throughout the week, students focused on ways to be kind to each other. Each day we promoted several acts of kindness and incorporated suggestions into our prayer service and announcements. In addition to random acts of kindness, participants actively sought out purposeful acts of kindness. It was wonderful to see our students going out of their way to be kind in word and deed.

We hope to continue the spirit of kindness that this challenge helped instill. This program teaches so much value to students and to adults as well. We shared them last week, but below are the links to a couple of checklists of acts of kindness for students to continue to use at school and at home. We hope that these efforts have an enduring effect on our school community.
