NYU's Scoring for Videogames Workshop

June 30 – July 5

Led by videogame composer powerhouse Tom Salta (Halo, Killer Instinct) and featuring industry professionals such as Gina Zdanowicz (Serial Lab), Jason Kanter (Avalanche Studios), the NYU Videogame Scoring Workshop will engage participants with the aesthetic and technical aspects of composing music for videogames. During this week-long workshop students will learn to use industry-standard software such as Wwise, approach nonlinear and multi-layered compositions, interface with industry professionals, and demonstrate their music in live-demos of gameplay. Over the course of the workshop, you’ll receive professional instruction how to:

  • Use middleware software to implement musical layering. 

  • Develop compositional techniques for non-linear and interactive gameplay. 

  • Create professional mock-ups and final mixes. Integrate music into videogame play engines

As a participant, your work will be critiqued by Tom Salta, industry professionals, and NYU’s acclaimed Scoring for Film and Multimedia faculty, and demonstrated in live gameplay. https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/summer/scoringworkshops/videogames

Develop:Brighton - Keynote Speakers Announced!

Media Molecule’s founders will discuss the development of their upcoming creative adventure game Dreams during the latest keynote announced for Develop:Brighton 2019, which takes place 9-11 July at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

The celebrated British game studio’s founders, Siobhan Reddy, David Smith, Kareem Ettouney, Alex Evans and Mark Healey, will take part in a fireside chat titled ‘Creating Dreams with Media Molecule’
on Wednesday 10 July.
 

Frontier Developments CEO David Braben has been announced as a keynote
speaker at Develop:Brighton 2019, a three-day conference and expo taking place 9-11 July at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

David will discuss the history of Frontier Developments, from Darxide to Jurassic World Evolution and the upcoming Planet Zoo, in a fireside chat with journalist Chris Dring to mark the studio’s 25th anniversary.

The Develop:Brighton Audio Track is a day-long conference on Thursday 11 July for anyone involved in sound or music and video games. Audio professionals can expect to be inspired by the latest techniques and trends, plus hear from peers and experts who will share their own experiences and knowledge on all things sound related. Dolby Showcase and Mixer
On May 7th, Dolby hosted an event and mixer with guest speaker, Nick Wiswell, Audio Director at Turn 10 Studios. Nick spoke about how the audio team at Playground Games utilized Dolby Atmos in Forza Horizon 4 using FMOD Studio.

"Upping the Ante with Ballads & Shanties: Writing Songs for Video Games"  -  ASCAP Expo



Austin Wintory moderated a panel at this year's ASCAP Expo to discuss songs in video games. The panel featured Jack Wall (Wall of Sound), Cindy Shapiro (Wall of Sound), Darren Korb (Supergiant Games), and Lydia Andrew (Ubisoft). We got more insight about writing songs for games from Austin and Jack.
