Meet Our Amazing New Advisory Board!

Many of the world's leading scientists, policy-makers, planners, designers, journalists, and activists are now advising The McHarg Center.

Jeff Goodell (Rolling Stone), Karen Seto (Yale/IPCC), Shannon Cunniff (Environmental Defense Fund), and Andrew Zolli (Planet Labs) join a dozen of PennDesign's top alumni and friends on the Center's new board.

Jestena Boughton (Colony Hotel), Keith Bowers (Biohabitats), Ignacio Bunster-Ossa (AECOM), Carol Collier (Academy of Natural Sciences), Roberta Dranoff (Dranoff Properties), Christian Gabriel (General Services Administration), Faye Harwell (Rhodeside & Harwell), Ed Hollander (Hollander Design), Elliot Rhodeside (Rhodeside & Harwell), Cindy Sanders (OLIN), and Barbara Wilks (W Architecture & Landscape Architecture) have joined the board too.

Here's what a few of our new board members had to say about why they decided to join The McHarg Center:

"Climate change is rapidly reshaping our world. The McHarg Center is leading the conversation about what, exactly, that means for how we live today and how we imagine our future."

Jeff Goodell, Rolling Stone Contributing Editor, Author of The Water Will Come.
"Ian's philosophy and energy inspired me as a student and his teachings still form the basis of my professional practice. I'm thrilled to be able to join The McHarg Center and broaden the exposure to his worldview."

Faye Harwell, Founding Director of Rhodeside & Harwell, PennDesign MLA Graduate.
"I joined The McHarg Center because it is an exciting and much needed mechanism to bring a range of urban fields together to forge new solutions to our most pressing issues."

Karen Seto, Hixon Professor of Geography and Urbanization Science, Yale School of Forestry.

Earth Day: Fleming + Randall on Climate Security in the Houston Chronicle

As a part of the Houston Chronicle's post-Harvey Earth Day coverage, Fleming and Randall write that "On this Earth Day, it is worth nothing that we’re more than a year into the Trump administration and the president has failed to act on or even acknowledge the single greatest threat to economic growth and national security facing the United States: climate change...Even post-Hurricane Sandy New York remains without a single major built project in response to that storm. The national system for responding to disaster is broken. The national system for anticipating disaster and adapting our communities to a changing climate is non-existent."

Earth Day: Steiner on The First Earth Day and How It Led him to Study with Ian McHarg
