Welcome to the August edition of Global Voice. Being a Soroptimist means being part of something special. A global community that joins together as one voice on behalf of women and girls everywhere. The Global Voice newsletter aims to keep you up to date with all the news and showcase just some of the outstanding and inspiring Club projects taking place around the world.

This month saw the launch of the UN Women's 'HeForShe' campaign in Cameroon and w
e take a closer look the Meru Women's Garden Project, selected as the SIGBI Federation Project for 2016-2019. Soroptimists take to the skies to raise funds for the Diamond Education Grant and as we approach International Literacy Day, we take a look at just some of the many wonderful projects taking place that focus on education, and are opening the doors to new possibilities for women and girls. NEWS: 'HeForShe' launches in Cameroon
UN Women’s 'HeForShe' campaign launched in Cameroon on 11 August and members of S.I Yaoundé were on hand to bring us news from the event. Martha Pufong, PAC Cameroon says: "It is an encouragement to myself and my club that the Government recognizes and supports the advocacy work we are doing".

The Sky's the Limit - Soroptimists and the Diamond Education Grant
Soroptimists took to the skies at Zip World on 11 August, riding the fastest zip-wire in the world, raising money for the Diamond Education Grant, set up by the SIGBI Federation in 1975. NEWS: World Humanitarian Day took place on 19 August 2016.
Events were held around the world to honour the work of humanitarian workers and to celebrate the 2016 theme of ‘One Humanity’.

NEWS: The Meru Women's Garden Project
In this Global Voice we take a closer look at the Meru Women's Garden Project, a collaboration between Child.org, Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland and the women of Meru. The Project will run for three years, with SIGBI Clubs joining forces to raise funds in support of some the poorest women-led households in Kenya.

NEWS: International Youth Day, 12 August 2016
The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day was “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption”.

The World Youth Report on Youth Civic Engagement, prepared by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, explores young people's participation in economic, political and community life.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY, 8 SEPTEMBER
This year marks the 50th anniversary of International Literacy Day and UNESCO is celebrating it under the banner “Reading the Past, Writing the Future”.  With this in mind we take a look at just a handful of the many Soroptimist projects that focus on education, and are opening the doors to new possibilities for women and girls.
