Dear fellow Gonzaga Moms,

Spring is finally here, and we can tell it has arrived by the renewed flurry of activity on Eye Street!  We look forward to seeing you this Wednesday evening, April 8, for our last GMC meeting of the school year at 6:30 p.m.  Father Planning will give his traditional remarks updating everyone on Eye Street happenings, and Mr. Jamie McIntyre, Dean of Students, will be our “guest” speaker.  Mr. McIntyre will answer your questions about prom, graduation, and all upcoming school events. Come join us for these two great talks and enjoy fellowship with other Gonzaga moms.

Mark your calendars now for our May 6 Joint Parents’ meeting with the Gonzaga Fathers’ Club.  We have a very interesting speaker lined up for this special evening along with delicious food provided by the GFC.

Please join me in thanking Ann Pulliam, our GMC Communications Chairperson.  Ann has sent out a monthly ENewsletter and even more EBlasts throughout the year, filled with all our GMC news.  It’s so easy to know what’s happening on Eye Street with her masterful communications! Thanks are also in line for Caroline Ervin, our GMC Family Support Chairperson.  Caroline has sent numerous cards, gifts, and goodies to students, families, and faculty who are ill, suffered a loss or injury, or enjoyed the birth of a new little one. The GMC is also extremely grateful to Nancy Leach and Mary Forde, our Mothers’ Club Closet Chairpersons, who have worked tirelessly to provide supplies, decorations, and equipment for all GMC events this year.

A special thanks to Mary Daly and Amy May for the Senior Parent Night.  Also, thanks to Kimberly Notarianni, Alison Quatrini and Valerie Warburton for providing refreshments at the Parent –Teacher conference and to Kathy Prominski and Laura Tramonte for feeding our teachers before the conference.

Thank you to all who have joined the GMC this year.  Your dues have helped to pay for the refreshments at events such as Back to School Night and Parent Teacher Conferences, in addition to providing prize money for the Gonzaga Photo Contest, offsetting the cost of Prom tickets, and providing funds for faculty stipends for summer enrichment. Congratulations to Karen McGee, our Membership Chairperson, who has worked diligently to increase membership this year.

Please consider signing up to help with the upcoming International Food Fair - the “best day of the year” according to many Gonzaga students, the McKenna Bake Sale, the Mothers’ Day Flowers distribution at the JB Johnson Nursing Home, the Baccalaureate reception,  the New Mothers’ Luncheon, and the summer Mentoring Program for new families.  Details for all these events are included in this e-newsletter.

Also, consider joining other Gonzaga Moms in the Gonzaga High School’s team “Eagles for Hope” in support of sophomore, Jack Guarino’s goal to raise money for brain tumor research.  Jack was diagnosed with two inoperable brain tumors last year and with the support of the Gonzaga community was able to stay on track with his classes, finish his freshman year and is back to a regular school schedule.   Jack is so thankful for all the blessings in his life and as a “man for others” has set a personal goal to raise $5,000 through donations to fund research to help those who will face this diagnosis in the future.  Please visit
www.curebraintumors.org for more information, to join the team and /or make a contribution.

I look forward to seeing you at our meeting Wednesday night and on Eye Street this spring!

Warmly,

Rose Cameron, GMC President 2014-2015

Mentoring New Families in 2015-2016

Remember when you were new to Gonzaga?  Perhaps with your first child in high school?  The simplest things can feel overwhelming!

Please consider guiding a few new moms through the process by offering to answer questions and provide information.  Often these questions are as simple as "What kind of shoes do the boys wear?"

All it takes to provide that support is one phone call during the summer, and another during the fall, to reach out and connect with a new mom.  You can answer any immediate questions, share some of our Gonzaga friendliness, and leave your contact information for future questions.

It's so easy, yet makes such a big difference.

To volunteer to mentor 4 or 5 families, please CLICK HERE.

Thanks!

A heart felt thank you to all of our Moms who helped to make the Mother Son Brunch such a wonderful event. Mother Nature forced us to be flexible on our set up day, but so many of you still came out to lend a hand. We also thank our wonderful crew of Dads for their help on Saturday and for serving on Sunday.  This event is a team effort.  Every job got done with a smile and we even had a wonderful clean up group that stayed with us til the end to carefully put that last Eagle away!  Thanks to all of you, we could not have done it without you.
