Dear fellow Gonzaga Moms,

Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a very peaceful, joyful, and merry Christmas and New Year’s celebration! It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through the school year!

The Mothers’ Club was so busy during the past two months!  We did not have a GMC meeting last month, so I’d like to reach back to November to thank Tara Claeys and Katie Cooney for planning and hosting a beautiful Mass of Thanksgiving and reception afterwards! All collection proceeds from the mass went directly to the McKenna Center, and we are all so grateful for their hard work and planning.

The Purple Polar Express launched the Christmas season for all of us, and what a night it was! Thank you to Meaghan McCaleb, Jill Mote and MaryBeth Powers, Gala co-chairs, and thank you to the wonderful, hard-working, and creative 2014 Gala Committee. Check out the
Gala website to shop for merchandise still available for purchase, and for a few sign up parties with openings.  Also, it's not too late to donate to “Raise the paddle” to improve the sound system in St. Aloysius.

Thank you Kathy Kirvan and Denise McGloon for organizing last month’s very successful Christmas Cards and Treats event for our sons, the residents of the Residential Care Center really appreciated receiving the cards.  Also, thank you to Mary Plantamura for helping to coordinate Gonzaga’s Adopt-a-Family program, you helped to brighten the holidays for the families in our neighborhood as well as the families of the Washington School for girls.  Faculty Treats hosted a wonderful breakfast last Friday, I know faculty really appreciates these monthly breakfasts, thank you Hazel Lychak and Sharon Persinski for making them so special.

Hear more about these events and all our upcoming events at our GMC meeting this Wednesday, Jan.14, when Corinne Cannon, founder of the D.C. Diaper Bank and daughter of Gonzaga’s English teacher, will be our guest speaker. Father Planning will also give an update on what’s happening at school, and our Gala Chairs will share details about this year’s Gala success. The meeting will be in the Jesuit Dining Room (JDR),as always, we will enjoy wonderful food and drink provided by our GMC Hospitality Chairs along with the company of old and new friends. Remember to bring your donations for the Father McKenna Center and the WMSG.

Ann Pulliam, GMC Communications Chair, has produced another tremendous newsletter this month packed with great information and news about all upcoming events! Thank you Ann for creating such an informative and appealing newsletter each month.

I look forward to seeing you this Wednesday (in the JDR) and also at Parent Teacher Conferences on Jan 15!  Happy New Year!

Rose Cameron, GMC President, 2014-2015

Annual  Men for Others Diaper Drive

The Annual Men for Others Diaper Drive will take place on campus February 5 - 12, please encourage your son to participate! Sizes 4, 5 and 6 are particularly needed.  All diapers collected will be donated to the D.C. Diaper Bank which provides a monthly average of 75,000 diapers to 2,500 D.C. area families. The Founder and Executive Director, Corrine Cannon, is the daughter of Gonzaga's own Rick Cannon and created the Diaper Bank in 2010. Last year our drive was shortened by a snow days, but we were still able to donate just under 12,000 diapers. This year our goal is 16,000, please help us with this worthy effort! For more information about the D.C. Diaper Bank, click here: http://www.dcdiaperbank.org

There will be a Mother/Son volunteer opportunity at the D.C. Diaper Bank in March - stay tuned for details.

Thank you to all the moms who helped with the Christmas Cards and Treats! The cards were delivered by Sister Seton to nursing home residents and were thoroughly appreciated. And the boys appreciated all those treats!! If you have any leftover Christmas Cards from this year, please bring them to the meeting on Wednesday night as we need to replenish our supplies for next year. Thanks so much!!
