Life is hard in mountain communities like San JosÃ© de la Mula. To walk to the nearest health centre would take her at least 3 hours, which is why women often choose to stay at home to deliver their babies. In remote rural communities, having access to hospital care during childbirth is often the difference between life and death for a mother and her newborn.
