Dear <<First Name>>,

Thank you for being a sustaining partner of AMOS!

This year has been filled with numerous changes and positive growth in our programs. You may remember at the end of last year we were just getting these changes started as we expanded our work to focus in on decreasing malnutrition and anemia in the First 1,000 Days of a child’s life.

Your continued support has helped start and sustain new programs that are:

  • Training health promoters to be Mentors and stronger leaders for their department’s health promoters.
  • Educating and encouraging Volunteer Mothers to build relationships with women around them so each mother can make positive change to improve their children's future.
  • Identifying mothers with the best nutrition habits and training them to educate and support other moms in their community whose children are malnourished.
  • Supporting Youth Peer Educators to reach out to more young people in two more rural communities and provide training that will help youth become future leaders in their communities.
Each new and existing program, we believe, over time will reach our main goal of considerably increasing the health of children in rural Nicaragua.

Your Support in Action: Water Filters for a Healthier Future

Clean water is essential to increasing the health of both children and adults. Drinking contaminated water from rivers, wells, and open water containers increases the chances of sickness, infections, and parasites.

Over the past four years, AMOS has been installing water filters in people’s homes and educating children in schools on how to take care of their personal hygiene and their environment so that communities as a whole can have a healthier life.

Since January of this year numerous delegation teams have helped AMOS staff and community members install 287 water filters in 7 different communities! This means that over 1,350 individuals (from the eldest to the youngest) are getting a chance to drink clean water. In total, we have now installed over 1,000 water filters since 2010 with 89% of them still in good condition.

Reaching out to our Neighbors in Nejapa

During the past couple months our entire AMOS team has been preparing for a health fair and training local leaders  in order to officially make Nejapa a partner community with AMOS! We had over 800 patients visit the health screening stations and our clinic in Nejapa during the two-day fair, and are excited to be working more closely with our neighbors. During the fair kids were tested for anemia and malnutrition, adults were tested for hypertension and diabetes, and much more. We had the honor of partnering with doctors and nurse practitioners from ChenMed, who saw and gave consultations to patients from the community. Thank you Nicaragua Medical Missions, ChenMed, and OVBC for supporting our new work in Nejapa!
