Reigning Back-To-Back IBL Champions Bellingham Slam Close Door On Seattle Flight And Advance To Championship Game

June 28, 2014 – Vancouver, WA – The Bellingham Slam are headed to the IBL Finals once again, and will be in search of their third straight IBL title when they face the Vancouver Volcanoes after an intense first day of action. Bellingham used an impressive second half to knock out the Seattle Flight 136-105.

The reigning champs needed a spirited second half effort after falling behind 52-49 after the first two quarters. Showing no signs of fatigue, the Flight kept pace with the Slam the entire first half and shot 44.2% from the field. The Flight were guided all game by Mike James who ended the night with 48 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Carlos Singer was Seattle's second leading scorer with 16 points. 

Bellingham used the halftime intermission to turn things around and to return back to their championship form. In the second half, Bellingham shot a blazing 66.7% from the field and 47.4% from behind the three point line. Sharpshooter Morris Anderson led the Slam with 41 points on 15-for-18 shooting from the field, and 4-for-6 shooting from downtown. In all, the Slam had seven players record double-digits in scoring. 

Bellingham out rebounded Seattle by a game changing 70 to 38. The Slam dominated the glass behind the league's leading rebounder, and newly crowned IBL Defensive Player of the Year Blake Poole who finished with 20 rebounds. 

The Bellingham Slam will now take on the host team Vancouver Volcanoes Sunday, June 29, at 5:00 PM Pacific Time. The Slam will enter the contest at Clark College tied with the Volcanoes in their regular season matchup 2-2. Arguably the two best teams in the playoffs, the fifth matchup will surely provide fireworks and an epic 2014 IBL championship game.
