2013 IBL Playoffs July 4th Weekend in Portland

June 4, 2013– Vancouver, WA –  Make your plans to GET IN THE GAME as the 2013 International Basketball League (IBL) playoffs for full season teams, will be July 3, 4 and 5th hosted by the Portland Chinooks at Eastmoreland Courts.
The Chinooks who have been in the IBL since 2005 are based in the greater Portland Metro area with a Clackamus County base at the owner’s Emmert International offices.  Transforming a tennis facility with a purpose of bringing more sporting events to the Tri-county area, Eastmoreland will not only be home to the 2013 IBL Playoffs on July 4th weekend, but also the End of the Trail Tournament, an invitation only NCAA certified event featuring 224 teams during viewing time for high school girls to move on to college through basketball.
“The Chinooks are excited to finally host the IBL Playoff weekend,” Chinooks and Eastmoreland Courts owner Terry Emmert shared.  “We are proud of the economic development both events will bring to the community, with a focus on watching pro basketball up close at affordable prices, with outstanding competition.  We are happy to host, coming in second to Bellingham last year we are looking to take home the ultimate trophy on our home court this year,” Emmert declares.
The Volcanoes are no stranger to winning on their home court either, going 11-0 in 2011 hosting the IBL Playoffs brought them a Championship as well.  We could see another ‘Battle of the Bridge’ during the weekend as the Volcanoes and Chinooks are close in the standings so far this season. With many familiar faces on the Volcanoes roster including seven 2012 IBL All Stars who wanted to become a part of the team this season, this team is looking for another ring.
“What is similar to our 2011 Championship team are some of the players, including 6'5" F Kevin Bloodsaw and 2011 Finals MVP 6'8" F Jake Carsilie who came out of retirement, as well as the general unselfish attitude, sometimes to a fault.  Our guys are not worried about who is going to score all the points, one night it’s 6'6" F Chey (Chehales Tapscott), then 6'4" F Paul (Hafford), 6'3" G (Josh)Tarver or 6'2 G Andre (Murray).  I can’t tell you who the best player is on our team because it changes every night,” Volcanoes General Manager Bryan Hunter observes. “The difference now is we have more weapons, a deeper bench, such as Jake Carslie who is now coming off the bench for us, and just may have a roster with more playoff experience and certainly games in the IBL. We will make a run for the ring by getting healthy by the end of the season, looking to gel better with regular practices and a one game at a time approach to finish the season strong, which includes the goal to win in Bellingham June 21st, something we have never done” Hunter shares.
The last two Champions have been the hosting team; does that mean the Portland Chinooks could finally take home the trophy?  Not if the 2008 and 2012 Champion Bellingham Slam keep up the pace they have set this season.  At the top of the standings, on a nine game winning streak with only one loss so far they are the team to beat once again.  A team that some refer to as the ‘Spurs’ of the IBL are tried and true lead by Head Coach Rob Ridnour.
“We just have to stay consistent and have energy every game, one game at a time. There are some tough games coming up for us this second half of the season, especially on the road and we have to bring it every game,” Coach Ridnour shares about the Slam’s outlook. “It would have a positive impact and mean a lot to the organization lead by an outstanding General Manager, Kip Leonetti, to bring home another Championship, this time back to back.”
