Earth Awareness Month

In honor of Earth Awareness month, the Associated Student Body (ASB) at North City Campus organized a fun event to share information about keeping the earth green and to encourage participation in similar events around San Diego this month. ASB President Maria Hammar and Arianna Ruiz worked with ASB Advisor Suzanne Swersky to distribute information and provide prizes and surprises to students.

Building on Success through Strategic Planning

Themes pulled from SDCE program and department strategic goals.

The Strategic Planning Steering Committee met 3/21 to review how strategic goals and objectives were created, and to review the first draft of SDCE goals. There was much excitement in reviewing all the themes that developed out of the work and effort of all involved, along with a consensus that the draft goals were clearly developed out of the roll up of themes.
Members also reviewed Education Master Plan and Executive Summary templates to see how goals rolled up into SDCE goals, and to review objectivities/activities adherence to the S.M.A.R.T. method:
•       Specific   •       Measurable   •       Achievable   •       Realistic   •       Time-related

Faculty Leadership

FLDA Develops Future Leaders
The Academic Senate acknowledges 22 CE instructional staff and counselors selected to participate in the first SDCCD Faculty Leadership Development Academy (FLDA). The commitment of the participants and the investment of the District in developing future leaders is strong evidence of our collaborative participatory governance process. Chancellor Constance Carroll, Ph.D., will attend the graduation ceremony held at the District offices on April 27, 2016. See the list of participants.

Business and IT Instructor Serves on Statewide Committee
Vicki Maheu serves on the statewide ASCCC Transfer, Articulation and Student Services Committee as a co-author on the ASCCC Rostrum article, "Disenfranchised students-Who are they?" The committee also developed a questionnaire asking for feedback from Academic Senate presidents, counselors and management of all CACCs regarding services for disenfranchised students. Read preliminary survey results, and organized the annual statewide ASCCC Academic Academy Conference held in Sacramento last month.

SDCE Dedicates Chavez Campus Car Park

The Chavez Campus Car Park is not your ordinary parking garage. The structure in Barrio Logan supports the students enrolled at SDCE's Chavez Campus, but it is also a culturally signficant tribute to Chavez’ life and the ten values he lived by, which are inscribed throughout the impressive photographic murals on the sides of the building.
