Last year SDCE connected with the USS Midway Museum to expand the number of community volunteers working in our ESL and citizenship classes. Since the coordinated effort, numbers have grown from 4 volunteers in 3 classes at 1 campus to 25 volunteers in 14 classes at 5 campuses. More
Passport to Success Begins for 30+

Passport to Success had it's opening event on Sept. 2nd. enjoying a lunch with President Turner Cortez at ECC. It was a chance for all our SDCE New Contract Faculty Academy participants to meet SDCE leadership and enjoy a workshop on the Nuts and Bolts of SDCE with Neill Kovrig, Classified Senate President and Ranessa Ashton, PIO presenting important information on communication processes. Team building activities and information about online teaching were also presented in the first of nine workshops for new contract faculty.

SDCE graduate Ricardo Muñoz Zurita was a student in both Menu Planning and ESL classes more than 25 years ago. Today, Ricardo is a world-renown Chef, food researcher and cookbook author, and has met and interacted with four of SDCE’s Presidents.
Chef Ricardo has been a strong supporter of SDCE, and to SDCE students, for many years. Faculty member Marilyn Biggica and President Turner Cortez recently had lunch with Ricardo and they discussed the past Los Dos Chefs fundraising events and how special it was for the Los Dos Chefs scholarship recipients to speak at those events and share how the education they are receiving has changed their lives.

San Diego Continuing Education’s first strategic plan represents the hard work and commitment to the process of SDCE faculty, staff, administrators, students, foundation, and community members. An important element in the writing of the Self-Study is to involve all stakeholders. In September the Self-Study will be vetted and approved by the Accreditation Steering Committee, Academic and Classified Senates, the Associated Student Body, President’s Cabinet and Executive Governance Council. ADULT EDUCATION BLOCK GRANT
San Diego Adult Education Regional Consortium (SDAERC) approved a two-year plan and allocation of funding for 2016/17, including $ 2.8 million to SDCE. Susan Yamate will continue to serve as director and liaison for SDAERC. More
