ECC Celebrates Dia De Los Muertos

ASB partnered with SDCE Outreach and counseling faculty to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Over 100 students participated in the event at ECC, which included a live performance from ECC’s Nancy Gabriela, an ESL Student, an altar competition, costume contest and face painting by Roy Hernandez.

Though Dia De Los Muertos is traditionally a celebratory holiday to honor deceased loved ones, this year it was the start of something new for SDCE. Many people saw this occasion breathe life into unacquainted campus grounds. “It was overwhelming and beautiful,” said Alberto “Beto” Vasquez, SDCE Outreach Coordinator. SDCE opened a new resource center earlier this fall. More

WorkAbility III
 by Leslie Quinones

In partnership with the California Department of Rehabilitation, SDCCD's WorkAbility III program provides guidance to students and helps them acquire the tools necessary to obtain successful employment. Our goal is to teach students the skills that will help them develop meaningful careers throughout their lives.
In fiscal year 2015-16, WorkAbility III assisted SDCCD students with securing over 50 job placements, 42 of which resulted in successful rehabilitative case closures with the Department of Rehabilitation. The program served over 200 students, of which about 30% had a primary diagnosis of a mental health disability.
