Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Japan during their time of struggle. For those of you concerned about the safety of seafood from Japan, please read this article detailing the ongoing monitoring efforts by both the FDA and Japanese government to keep harmful items out of the food supply chain. We at Quality Seafood Market promise to continue sourcing seafood that is safe for consumers without sacrificing quality or freshness. During the early stages of the crisis, we are reminded of the BP oil spill that sent shockwaves throughout Gulf communities and severly affected local economies and fisherman. While the environmental impact was undeniably terrible, the power of misinformation and skepticism did much to hinder local fisheries. We hope that you as consumers will do your part to stay informed about your food supply, while keeping faith in the agencies (both public and private) that are charged with protecting consumer safety. Recipe of the week
"Party-in-a-Shot-Glass Oyster Shooters"
(recipe from Pastry Queen Parties by Rebecca Rather and Alison Oresman)

2 (12-ounce) cans V8, tomato juice, or Clamato juice, chilled
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 1 medium lemon)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3 to 4 shakes Tabasco sauce
1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/2 teasoon freshy ground black pepper
2 dozen fresh oysters (about 2 pounds)
Vodka
Halved lime slices, for garnish

In a large (at least 2-cup capacity) pitcher, stir together the V8, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, Cajun seasoning, celery salt, and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to assemble the oyster shooters. Set 12 (1 1/2-ounce capacity or more) shot glasses on a decorative tray. Spoon 1 oyster into each, top with 2 tablespoons tomato mix, and refrigerate until ready to serve, up to 2 hours ahead. Just before serving, float 1 teaspoon vodka on top. Garnish with lime slices.
