Lomas & Mitchell is a firm of architects in Chesterfield who recently featured as the designers of the very low carbon Derbyshire longhouse that was on Grand Designs on 28th September.

They are also helping with a small retrofitting project in Wirksworth for Mary Ann Hooper, the chair of the Wirksworth Transition Community Land Trust.

Mary Ann says:- "I chose this firm because Richard Lomas, in addition to being a chartered architect, is a certified Passivhaus designer and clearly knew about putting building fabric first in any retrofit. I needed expert guidance on tea cosy as housedealing with the cold bridge that extended all around my bungalow's eaves - because if air tightness is increased it is essential to pay close attention to ventilation and air quality. I am pleased with his approach and his guidance."

Richard and business partner Jillian Mitchell are at the Grand Designs Live Exhibition on 8 October to talk at the Sustainable Futures Theatre about the background to the Derbyshire longhouse which featured on Grand Designs TV recently. Richard says his part of their talk is more about retrofitting.
