NEW RELEASES

Tamiko Nishimura "Voyage"

Zen Foto Gallery is pleased to announce its new publication "Voyage" by Tamiko Nishimura, including approximately 220 monochrome works taken by the photographer in Asia and Europe from around 1987 to 2018. While “Voyage” mainly features Nishimura’s unpublished works, the book will also include a number of photographs from the series “Photo travelogue - Kaido” she published in the 90’s for the literary magazine “Gekko” founded by Tanka poet Yasuki Fukushima.

This book is comprised of photographs taken in Hong Kong in the '80s, Portugal, Nederland, United Kingdom and Turkey in the '90s, Vietnam, Vienna, Paris, Korea and Qingdao in the 2000s, Rome and Prague taken in the recent years, streets of Paris taken on the day after Paris attacks in November 2015, and more. Nishimura continues to capture works with a stance that never change no matter where she is, which can be found in her afterword “Travels and Memory.” Nishimura’s photography, revealing what is beyond a journey, is a manifold portrait of life wherever she encounters.

Pawel Jaszczuk "¥€$U$"(JESUS)

Having returned to his home of Poland after a decade living abroad, Pawel Jaszczuk was surprised at the ubiquity of religious objects in everyday contexts. Jesus had become a pop culture icon: holy Christian images appeared on underwear, as chocolate, as floating bathtub accessories, earrings, lamp-stands, tattoos, sex toys, and other mass-produced objects. Capitalism’s relentless usurping of anything and everything does not make exceptions for sacred imagery.

Jaszczuk’s photobook “¥€$U$”, then, aims to document and criticize the excesses of this development, of the grotesque marriage between holy symbols and the money-making drive, and asks: is religion’s way of staying up-to-date?

Oscar Chik "DIGGER"

Oscar Chik’s photobook “Digger” is an inside report from the world of gold-digger and sugar daddies. Chik, after having been approached time and again by wealthy older men on Grindr (the gay dating app), decided to fraternize with the men who propositioned him. The book documents – in text – moments from Chik’s conversations with the men leading up to their hook-up, photographs from his dates, detail shots of restaurants, hotels and private homes, as well as some of the pictures Chik was sent on Grindr.
