We wish all our readers a happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful new year. We also realize that's a tall order, but hope that the enjoyment of good food and drink, whether shared with others or savored in splendid solitude, will provide solace and comfort in 2017. This week we broke the news that Charlie Hallowell, owner of three much-loved restaurants in Oakland, was venturing into Berkeley. We also have a recipe for you — warm-spiced Mexican chocolate pudding —  that cries out to be made on these wet, chilly days. Enjoy.

The new spot, in the former Build Pizzeria space, will be the fourth restaurant for the Pizzaiolo owner, and his first outside Oakland.

Everyone will savor this twist on Mexican hot chocolate, whether after school or after work, perhaps curled up with a blanket on the couch.
