The adventure of 2012 is over... What is next??!

Update January 2013

Haythorpe Newsletter

Happy New Year! We're looking forward to 2013 to being a year of stability and building! Luke and I were sitting down at lunch yesterday looking back at 2012... It has been by far one of the hardest years we had encountered in our family. Through the difficulty we have seen God through it all. Below are some of the challenges and triumphs of 2012.

...Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. Hebrews 12:1-2

The Promise of Proverbs 3:1-6

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and ring you prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
As we look into 2013, we're going in holding on to the promise of Prov 3. He is giving us instruction to set us up for success! We go into this year tattooing (metaphorically speaking) his promise on our hearts and choosing daily to take love, faithfulness, mercy and truth and put it on our necks. We don't have know the EXACT details of where He's taking us and how He's going to do it. We trust that He's made the path... He's already given us a general plan but its up to us to be listening to Him, to hear His voice for each step to be guided. 'Your  word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path (Ps 119:105).'

We pray that this year brings you to place of intimacy with God, far greater than you've ever known. He is faithful and trustworthy.

2012 Reflection

We've had a transient year, to say the least. We started 2012 looking for another home in San Jose. And although we didn't have a home, we had experienced huge generosity as we were accommodated at each stage whether it was house sitting or crashing in a spare room we never lacked a roof over our heads. We are now living in San Jose, only 5 min out of downtown right in a neighborhood perfect for partnering with other local ministries! God is Faithful!

Since being in San Jose we have 3 kids in school and 1 at home. Xie has improved dramatically since changing his diet. He is now gluten, dairy and mostly sugar free. He is saying more each day. God is Faithful!

The DTS is now on Outreach. We are already planning for our next school in September with lots of inquiries already! We really enjoyed working with YWAM San Francisco and seeing the Bay Area work together! God is Faithful!

A few weeks ago we lost a close relative in Australia and we were given provision for Luke's ticket to fly out the very next day! What a special time to spend with the family. Angela was also provided a ticket to go out in February. God is Faithful!

We had 2 staff join Ember Ink early in the year and 2 interns sign up at the end of the year. God is Faithful!

We definitely had our share of major challenges this year and although its a new year, it doesn't mean that they disappear. The New Year just offers us an opportunity to see how faithful God has been in the midst of our trials. I am challenged to praise him always and to see him in everything, in the best of circumstances and the worst. Here is a little gem as you reflect on your 2012: Psalm 34.

DTS Outreach Update

Our DTS team of 19 is currently in Thailand. They had an incredible 3 weeks in Hollywood working with at-risk youth and working on the streets. Here is the latest email we received a few days ago:

"We arrived safely in Thailand at 1 am on December 27th. It took us two hours to get through immigration.Once we were all through we found our Thai friends and were on our way to the YWAM Thailand base. I cant speak for all but it was the best two hours of sleep in a bed ever! The next day we had orientation on Thailand and Thai culture. Then the students went out on a scavenger hunt that finished with eating some bugs! We were all pretty tired from the long journey here and from the heat, it actually is the coolest time of the year right now but we all disagree with that!!! :) The team is doing great adjusting to the food, time difference and weather!! We are about to leave for a temple tour and Bangkok prayer walk!!!"

Continue to pray as God expands each student's ministry and as they reach out to the needs in Thailand.

Never Once

I'd have to say that the song Never Once by Matt Redman has been the anthem of 2012 for us. We've had a really tough year with its business, transience and family loss. However, we have seen God come through and meet us time and time again. We added this to our Update so that you too may be encouraged as you look back at 2012 and look forward into this year. Here is just a few verses so you can hear a bit of our heart:

Kneeling on this battleground
Seeing just how much You've done
Knowing every victory
Was Your power in us

Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say

Never once
Did we ever walk alone
Never once
Did You leave us on our own
You are faithful
God, You are faithful

We are breathing in Your grace
Evermore we'll be
Breathing out Your praise
You are faithful
God You are faithful

Carried by Your constant grace
Held within Your perfect peace
Never once
No we never walk alone

Prayer Requests

We are entering our 14th year in missions together (This is Luke's 15th year in YWAM). WOW! How quickly time flies!! YWAM Ember Ink is starting to take shape... a little slower than we expected but when God's doing the forming, you embrace it! :) He is firmly building a strong foundation as this ministry is being built. We are expectant in this new season.
  • Our big need is that we need to see our monthly support increase by $700/month this year. Would you please be praying that God would would partner us with 10-15 people who can meet this need.
  • Xavier will be hitting school-age this year. Please pray we are lead to the right school for him as we continue to discover his learning capabilities.
  • We're needing to see a property(ies) released to YWAM for the DTS in September that can accommodate 30-40 people.
