Hi everyone!

Join us for GETI Fest 2013! GETI stands for "Golden Ears Transition Initiative", which is an umbrella organization for various groups in the community that work together to create a more resilient, vibrant, supportive and caring community, to help us meet our needs for food, energy, shelter and sustainable livelihoods, while reducing our carbon footprint and our dependence on fossil fuels. HUB is one of GETI's Action Groups. You can find out more about GETI on the GETI website

Theme: "Youth in the Community"

Where: Memorial Peace Park
Date: Saturday, September 21, 2013
Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

There will be lots going on, with art, displays, and local food, and of course the weekly Haney Farmers Market. This year's event will see local youth groups and schools represented with their displays and ideas on how to work together towards a more sustainable future for our community.

We saw lots of kids with bikes at last year's event. This year we're hoping to see even more! Here's the bikey stuff we have planned:

10:00 am - 11:00 am - A bike decorating station on the grassy area in front of the Act
(even better if you bring your bike already decorated!)

11:00 am - People in Motion parade
(you can bike, walk, run, dance, rollerblade.... anything non fossil fuel powered!). Staging for the parade starts at 10:30 am.

12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - bike rodeo, in front of The Act
Some people have asked me what a bike rodeo is.  Well, there will be a technical skills course with some fun exercises to do, as well as an intersection drawn on the pavement, for kids to learn and practice their traffic skills. We have 2 small kid's bikes (and helmets) for those who are not able to bring their own.

10:00 am - 3:00 pm - We will be offering bike parking in the enclosed area beside the Day Care room in the Leisure Centre.

10:00 am - 3:00 pm - New for this year: the RCMP Crime Prevention Unit will be on site for bike engraving at our bike parking booth, so bring your bike to have your name or driver's license engraved, to make it more easily identifiable in case it ever gets stolen.

We are still looking for more volunteers, not just for our bike activities, but also for other things. Many volunteers are needed to make an event like this happen. Please let me know if you can help!

Hope to see you at GETI Fest!

Please feel free to pass on this e-mail to anyone you think may be interested. Thanks!
