Welcome to the new ASAA Headlines

First off welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year! Most teachers and administration have settled into their routine, so it is time for the first ASAA Headlines of the year!

This year ASAA is going to try a new way to distribute the ASAA Headlines. In the past you had to open this email, click the ASAA Headlines link, then download the PDF document, and finally review it. This year we have included all the information from ASAA Headlines into the actual email.

The first ASAA Headlines is always a little larger than ones to follow, but has lots of information and links you need to review. You can save these emails and always refer back to them accessed thru your email via desktop or mobile. This feature allows for more pronounced links to download or bookmark important information.

Because this is new we would like your feedback on this new format and delivery. You can email ASAA Associate Director Isaiah Vreeman with your feedback.

ASAA School Mascot Logos

Please send your school/mascot logo to Isaiah Vreeman (isaiah@asaa.org) in one of the following formats:

  • At least 150 DPI Resolution (Prefer 300 DPI Res.) Higher the resolution the better it looks larger.
  • Illustrator File (.AI or .EPS) - One of these is the preferred file type.
  • Photoshop File (.PSD)

School logos are VERY IMPORTANT for ASAA to have from its member schools. They are used to create state event graphics, team posters, publications, and other items.

The link below is to ASAA’s drop box to see the inventory of school logos ASAA currently has. School AD’s/Principals are able to download school logos that they could use for tournament/meet programs.

Good emergency action plans for school sports and activities are critical. Although rare, life threatening injuries can occur at any time, and it is the responsibility of the school to ensure everyone involved is prepared to handle the situation. Designing an EAP and educating those involved in after school sports and activities is vital.

One of the most important parts of the education process is practicing the plan. Practice sessions can make good preseason in-service training opportunities for the entire staff and can provide a good opportunity for school personnel to interact with medical providers in the community, including local EMS professionals. The greater the familiarity with those involved in carrying out the EAP, the smoother the response will be in a real emergency situation.

For more information and help in designing an EAP click the link below or contact Sandi Wagner, sandi@asaa.org

Emergency Action Plan Information

Due to overwhelming feedback, we’ll be shifting the Fall 2021 Esports Registration Deadline back one week to October 1st with the regular season matches starting October 5th.  While we all had hoped by this time that the outlook on the new school year would look better, we’ve heard many of you are still trying to navigate the new normal. We are making these changes to focus on a better experience and in response to school and coach feedback that they need more time to enroll their teams.

The updated schedule is as follows:

  • Fall Registration Deadline: 10/1
  • Preseason: 9/13 - 10/1 (3 weeks)
  • Regular Season: 10/4 - 11/19 (7 weeks)
  • Thanksgiving Break: 11/22-11/26 (1 week)
  • Playoffs: 11/29 - no later than 12/9
The schedule above does not change any of the timelines for the Thanksgiving Break or Playoffs and the season will end at exactly the same time as before. We’ve shifted the week of 9/27/2021 to be the 3rd week of preseason instead of the 1st week of the regular season to minimally impact the schedule.

We understand that late schedule updates are far from ideal and we would not have made the change unless it was clear that the current timeline was impacting schools ability to participate this fall.  We will be incorporating this feedback into our schedules in future seasons.
