It’s been another busy and exciting year at This Life Cambodia and we wanted to share some highlights and achievements as the year draws to a close.
Last year at this time we were delighted to announce that we had won a Stars Impact Award
. So, we’ll start by telling you how that award has been a game changer for us.
The award included $50,000 in unrestricted funding, two years of capacity building support, and valuable connections in global philanthropy. As a result of the latter we have secured two new institutional funders which are allowing us to expand our flagship Lower Secondary School Development Program
into 12 schools (from 2) and support one of our newest programs, This Life In Community.
- We have released our new 3 year Strategic plan (2016-2019) which can be downloaded from our website.
- Moto Doctor, is a vocational training social enterprise providing disadvantaged young adults with motorbike repair, personal development and small business management skills. After one year in operation, our first group of 16 students will be graduating this month after completing a one-year program. Moto Doctor is a thriving local business with a loyal clientele and we are considering expanding into additional locations.
- In May of this year we entered into a partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross to introduce our successful This Life Beyond Bars program into the largest prison in Phnom Penh. The program provides direct services to juveniles in prison who are nearing the end of their sentence, and facilitates their family and community reintegration post-release.
In January, when we launch our quarterly newsletter we will share more details about the above programs and other exciting developments.
At this time of year, we know that you receive many compelling appeals for your support. So we are very grateful if the work we do to address poverty at the community level motivates you to give to This Life Cambodia. Donations from individuals like you provide the flexible funding that is critical to address immediate and pressing needs. That can be anything from filling in gaps in program budgets, to upgrading our technology so we can work more efficiently, to supporting staff development and training.
As 2016 rapidly draws to a close, we wish you the warmest and happiest of holidays and all the best in the coming year.
Thank you so much for your support,
The TLC team
