Gratitude is a many-colored quality, reaching in all directions.
It goes out for small things and for large...
Faith Baldwin

It's all about Perspective

Every once in a while life turns upside down. The past few weeks have been upside down and sideways and tumbling all over the place too. Our 22yr old son was in a motorcycle accident. He will make a full recovery but the next six months are going to be hard for all of us.

Along with all the trauma, this has also been one of the sweetest times in my life as our family has come together to support Ethan. We have all been shown an outpouring of love and support from friends far and near. I've been keeping a public gratitude journal on my personal facebook page as a way to keep friends informed and to process my own feelings.

Spending each day looking for things to be grateful for has given me a different perspective on all this mess. I see beautiful, loving, helping people everywhere I look. I've noticed all the little miracles happen every step of the way.
This was Ethan's first day out in the sun; wheelchair, back brace, tracheostomy healing, arm in a cast, screws holding his pelvis together, meds on the table inside. Dad is giving him a manicure, sister and mom are braiding his hair to keep it under control. And it's beautiful.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense.

Gratitude Lesson 27
small things matter

A lovely thing happened on a recent walk through the neighborhood. My friend and I were walking by and the old guy who is always, always, out caring for his yard came around the side of the house and flagged us down. I couldn’t quite figure out what was going on.

He came up to us holding a honeycomb from his hive! He had us break a bit of the wax and dip our fingers in for a scoop of honey. It was rich and fruity and delicious.
It was sweet. Life is sweet. And precious.
And on a really hard day, it was something to be incredibly grateful for.
Will you join me in finding and posting something to be grateful for
each day for the next few weeks
on your own social media accounts?

The Gift of Growth

The holidays are my favorite time of year for so many reasons, all to do with people, none of it to do with things. I love giving and receiving experiences; concert tickets, classes, restaurant gift certificates, etc. These experiences make memories and help us grow together.

This year I'd like to offer you gifts of growth. Workshops that will help you learn new skills, digital publications that will help you learn and plan and grow. No shipping required, no worries about late packages, a much smaller impact on the environment.

Starting on Friday November 26th my digital downloads and online workshops will be offered for three short days at a 30% discount. For the very first time I'll also be offering gift certificates. More on this later, I just wanted to give you a heads-up.

Want to see my work in person?

The Stone, Water, Time exhibit will tour to each of the Mancuso Quilt Festivals this year, starting at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival! I'll be hanging around on Saturday and would love it if you stopped by and said hello.

These works were created in tandem with the poet Maura High as we explored the interactions between stone, water, and time. Inspired by the form, function, and beauty of historic mills and grindstones, Maura and I riffed off each other’s work, exploring a thought-provoking conversation in the abstract using both the written and the visual languages.
