STEM program - Texas Pre-Freshman Engineering Program (TexPREP)
7300 University Hills Blvd., Dallas, TX 75241

6 week summer program where middle and high school students take courses in the STEM fields. Students can take classes over the course of four summers and receive a high school elective credit after each summer.

Each year the students focus on a different subject area. Below is a breakdown of the curriculum:

Year 1- Logic, Introduction to Engineering

Year 2- Algebraic Structures, Introduction to Physics

Year 3- Statistics and Technical Writing

Year 4- Game Design and App Development, Environmental Science

This allows the students to get a varied experience in different areas of STEM and prepares the students for advanced courses in these fields. We also take the students on field trips and provide opportunities for them to hear from people who work in different STEM fields.

The program is from 9 AM - 3:30 PM.
They are willing to work with the Speakers' schedule(s).
Requesting 30 minutes and to present to 150 students (all at once or broken into 2-3 groups).

New 2015-2016 SHPE DFW Board of Directors

The next SHPE DFW term will begin the month of July.
Let us welcome the newest members to the SHPE DFW BOD!

Ingrid Campos - Secretary

Ingrid is originally from Houston but now works as an actuarial analyst for Towers Watson. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Math and a minor in Statistics. While at A&M, she was involved with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers chapter for 3 years, and  also got the opportunity to work for Aggie STEM, an organization which focuses on stem research and awareness. Ingrid enjoys being able to help kids learn about STEM fields and the opportunities they offer.

Andrea Valdivia - Treasurer

Andrea has been part of the SHPE familia since 2006 starting as a freshman at the University of Kansas (KU).  During her college years, she held several executive board positions in KU’s SHPE chapter and attended 4 National Conferences which is where she was first hired as an intern for Goldman Sachs, her current employer.  After graduating and moving to the New York City area, she was quite focused on her new role and ever since re-locating to Texas Andrea has been keen in getting back in touch with her SHPE roots.  She is extremely excited to serve as 2015-2016 Treasurer and looks forward to working with the new SHPE-DFW board.  A key goal she has is to increase general fundraising to allow for increased programs for our professional members and increased student scholarship awards.
She earned a B.S. in Computer Science, B.A. in Economics & B.A. in International Studies from KU in 2011 and currently works for Goldman Sachs as a Project Manager in their Technology division.  Andrea became an Associate in 2014 and is an active affinity network member in the firm’s Dallas Hispanic/Latino Network (DHLN); additionally she serves on the Technology Diversity Intern Committee and is the Technology Diversity Captain for UT Austin recruiting.  Andrea loves spending time with her bulldog and enjoys international travel, reading, Jayhawk basketball and table tennis.

Raul Asencio - Webmaster

Raul's  family came to the United States when he was little, and he didn't know the language or culture.  As a kid, he always had the curiosity to find out how things work, and this curiosity lead him to his computer engineering degree. He joined SHPE-UNT while attending UNT. He saw this organization as a family because his friends were involved by helping other member in their school work and by pushing them to become leaders. Raul believes that a small change can make the biggest impact; he wants to give back to the community.
